sherbear850 Posted April 21, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2017 My wife and I will be arriving at Heathrow at 10:30 a.m. June 2cd and need to make our way to Southampton. Any advice on whether to book a car in advance or will we be able to walk out and get a car service? Our hotel in Southampton has offered a service for 120 pounds. We leave via Celebrity Eclipse June 4th.
Rare John Bull Posted April 21, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2017 Yes, you could just walk out of the terminal and jump in a taxi from the rank. But that one taxi ride will blow your entire cruise spending money. Pretty-well anywhere in Europe, hailing a metered taxi is OK for a short hop such as from rail station to cruise terminal, but for a ride of any distance you need to pre-book at a fixed fare. You can do better than £120, more like £80 to £90 Try www.smithsforairports.com or www.aquacars.co.uk or www.westquaycars.com All are used without problems by Cruise Critic members, Smiths is usually cheapest. sherbear850 Posted April 21, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted April 21, 2017 Thanks for your help. I was afraid a taxi could be expensive. We might be in for a shock once we convert to Canadian dollars as our dollar is not doing very well lately. But we look forward to visiting the home of our ancestors. It will all be worth it. FritzG Posted April 22, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 22, 2017 We've used Simply Airports several times, and we've always been very pleased with the drivers, service, and the vehicles they use. We'll be booking with them again for our fall TA.
Globaliser Posted April 22, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2017 I was afraid a taxi could be expensive.Almost everywhere in the world, a metered taxi will be very expensive if you just jump in and ask to be driven to a different city the best part of 100 miles away.
