gentlemancruiser Posted May 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2017 We are on a 1 week sailing in the Fjords and concerned about tipping guides. Are we OK with Euro's or do we need to get krone's? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
easyboy Posted May 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 20, 2017 We tipped US$ to our tour guides before. Sent from my iPad using Forums
pinkpanther52 Posted May 21, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2017 Next time I am in the US or Canada I will tip in GBP!!!!!
Rare debsjc Posted May 21, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 21, 2017 I think the guides would appreciate tips in Krone, as that will be much easier for them to use. If you are going to top in Euro or USD then I would suggest notes not coins, so they can exchange them if they wish.
ExpatBride Posted May 21, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 21, 2017 Norway is quite a jaunt from the Eurozone, I'd tip in Kroner. I live in Denmark and can't use Euros for anything at home.
Magster1987 Posted May 21, 2017 #6 Share Posted May 21, 2017 Cant use Euros for anything in Norway either, but its not that hard to get i changed, and to be honest Norwegians basicly tip at restaurants and thats it. I guess a tour guide working with american tourists might have gotten used to getting tips, but tipping culture in Norway is nothing like in the United states. I was worried, It is not easy to get Krone in Canada at the bank they must be ordered in advanced and you have to buy a lot. Hapylady Posted June 4, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 4, 2017 I imagine that tour guides that work with Americans are used to tips in dollars and can get them exchanged at a bank.
EllieR Posted June 5, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 5, 2017 I was worried, It is not easy to get Krone in Canada at the bank they must be ordered in advanced and you have to buy a lot. The trick is to not go through the bank. I have had no problem getting Danish Krone (or any other European currency) at any of the independent foreign currency exchanges in Ottawa, nor have I ever had to purchase a minimum. I have also found their exchange fees to be less than my bank's. Have you looked into such exchanges in Toronto?
