Hubby and I getting very anxious and excited about our departure. Can you tell me where the best shopping is for jewlery? Also, did any of the islands have casinos? Did you survive furniture Mart? Maybe next trip we can meet one another.

Skip's Dad Posted December 4, 2005 #6 Share Posted December 4, 2005 DisneyJen... Thanks so much for the Bon Voyage wishes. From my perspecitve we certainly did have a great trip. Currently in my stateroom and thinking about packing. Have not been on e-mail for a few days or on this site since before leaving home a week ago. SD was great. The service was TOP NOTCH and the people on the cruise were among the best I have ever sailed with. We met all of the other "Cool Cruisers" and had time to talk, joke and even share a cocktail or two with them..... Again...thanks for the well wishes.....I (and perhaps a few others) may try to post more once we get home and settled.....
dewla Posted December 5, 2005 #7 Share Posted December 5, 2005 Hello "Skip's Dad" and the rest of you "cruise critics" and all you lurkers from the SD I!! Great to meet you all! I do not know where to start. But I will say this was the best vacation my hubbie and I have ever had. We prefer staying at places like Four Seasons, etc, and I am usually very picky. Only other ship in the same category is the Paul Gaugain in Tahiti. Loved The Captain. Fabian and Martin were fabulous. The waiters were great all the way from b-fast to dinner. (and we never missed a meal! LOL!) And the dealers in the casino were a lot of fun too. Even as they took our money. I had no complaints about the SD I. The staff was amazing and "no" did not seem to be in their vocabulary. Can we see the bridge? Of course. Can we get a table for 18 on the back deck? Of course. Can we get food for six at 3am? Of course. Can we please have foie gras one night for dinner? Of course. Can you repeat one of the desserts on the last night for us? Of course. Etc!! There was an amazing group of fun people on this particular sailing. Aside from a few people who seemed to want to tell everyone their occupation, I must say I left the ship not knowing what the heck most people did when NOT on the SD. LOL! Very nice to see pretentions were left at the dock. Just a bunch of fun loving people. And it certainly looked as if everyone (well, almost everyone) was having a wonderful time. We did. We booked a guaranty cabin, and although many others with a guaranty got a complimentary upgrade to the 3rd floor, we remained on the 2nd. Having never NOT had a balcony, we were nervous, but it was fine. We could see out the large port holes, and truthfully spent VERY LITLE time in our cabins. Preferring to be out and about, lounging on the Balinese beds, working out in the gym (ok, not too many times, but we did go there a few days), lounging down by the pool, and exploring whatever island we were on. And eating and drinking. A lot. I am sure we would have had a great time even if the other passengers had been less fun, but I must say the wonderful personalities of so many other passengers made the trip that much better! Thank you so much to all of you that made our week! Cannot wait to get back on one of the SD yachts!! Etc!!

travelchik Posted December 6, 2005 #10 Share Posted December 6, 2005 we got home late last night from our cruise. just wanted to say we had a great week and it was fun to meet all the fellow cruise critic members. like dewla, we stayed in a guaranty room and we did not get upgraded to floor 3. our room was fine, and we were hardly in it except to sleep at night. food was good, no one got sick, and it was basically a week of relaxing, eating, drinking, and sunning on the balinese sun beds. we got off the boat in all the ports with the exception of saba, but did not do any "organized" excursions. there were mixed reviews of saba. some said it was a don't miss, while others complained it was a complete waste of time. with the exception of a few passengers, it seemed that everyone had a great time. martin, paul, kris, jervie and stefan took great care of us, and our dear cabin stewardess was unbelievable. if there are any specific questions, please feel free to ask. dewla Posted December 7, 2005 #11 Share Posted December 7, 2005 our room was fine, and we were hardly in it except to sleep at night. Ohhhh!!! THAT is what we were supposed to be doing at night! Ha! In answer to carlylecat: We had a foot massage one day on one of the Balinese Beds. And she did my back too. That was decadent. (Massages in the spa were fabulous as well) St John's: We did the snorkel trip to Trunk's Bay. The seas were a little choppy so the snorkelling was v mediocre. Beach was pretty. And since we got there early, there were v few people there. Nice. Virgin Gorda: DEFINITELY do the Baths! Loved it. And the little bar at the entrance to the Baths made a GREAT Pina Colda. After we got back to ship we did water sports. Very pleased to be able to still get up on a single water ski. Water too rough though. Fun on kayaks and banana boat. No jet skis that day. Jost Van Dyke: Fabulous "painkillers" all day with a champagne and caviar fest in the middle of the day. Must go over to Soggy Dollar (was that the name of it??) where they invented "Painkillers". Cute T-shirts/Tank Tops. Saba: Was supposed to scuba dive. Waaaaay too hungover that day, so stayed on ship and had great day. St. Barth: Went out that night and found great bar. Band/Live Music. Danced all night. And some people even danced on the tables! Got an extra 1/2 hour hall pass too. St. Barth: Next day, shopped ALL DAY. Missed water sports that afternoon. Although dh snuck off of the shopping spree and played on all water sports stuff. Anguilla: Took taxi with a bunch of my favorite friends and hung at Shoal Bay. Beautiful sand/water. Even did some shopping from a guy that was carrying around necklaces. We said no at first then decided we liked some of it. St Maarten: Got off ship LAST. FLight not till 4pm. Went to Sonesta and had a few bottles of champagne before getting on flight. I think that covered all our OFF THE SHIP stuff.
