plode Posted May 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2017 We are doing a 35 night cruise on the Golden Princess this year and they have 9 formal nights. How formal is formal now, the Princess site talks about suits and cocktail dresses, Is this what people wear or has it become more casual? Any comments would be appreciated:)

There are many threads on "formal" night. They get very contentious. Here is a past but factual thread locked by the moderators which is probably what will happen to this thread. Good luck. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2484353&highlight=formal

DreamingOfLoveBoatDream Posted May 30, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2017 I wore a suit (not black tie level) earlier this month and I was fine. Most of the males in my dining session did the same.
wishfulone Posted May 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2017 The Golden Princess is old school formal, thank heavens. It's a grand ship and you'll want to be dressed in a befitting manner on a 35 night cruise with 9 formal nights. I'd suggest at least two formal evening gowns and a couple of wonderful cocktail dresses for her and a black suit with maybe an alternate jacket for him. mrs and mrs Posted May 30, 2017 #6 Share Posted May 30, 2017 Do what ever you are comfortable with, we have done 28 days on the supposed wonderful GOLDEN with 5/6 diff gowns and dined beside people virtually in tee shirts, We couldn't give a TOSS, an neither could the staff. Its the person not the outfit. Enjoy your cruise.:)

floridalover5623 Posted May 30, 2017 #8 Share Posted May 30, 2017 Many people still like to dress up but you'll find a growing crowd that has had their fill of formal nights and dress in a more casual style. Either was you'll still be allowed in the DR on formal nights to enjoy the better food selections that aren't served at the buffet.
