floridalover5623 Posted June 20, 2017 #26 Share Posted June 20, 2017 This is a very controversial topic and can be addressed by reading the Princess guidelines in their downloadable book. Tere will be many answers given here but in the end it will depend on the ship. captain and Maitre de - I have seen men allowed in wearing casual and have seen men turned back to get a tie or jacket They must have been pretty sloppy to be turned away. I haven't worn a jacket or tie in 15 years on Princess- many different ships- and have yet to be questioned.

elfinmagic Posted June 20, 2017 #28 Share Posted June 20, 2017 I am not having a go, but what I can't understand is why people always have to try and buck the system. Formal means formal and jeans are not formal wear. As you can see I come from the UK so we do stick to the rules more.😀 Good for you - some folks just like to think they are "special"

ggprincess2004 Posted June 20, 2017 #30 Share Posted June 20, 2017 Thanks guess we will bring a pair of pants and a button down for that night Slip in a tie, and you will be fine for formal night on an Alaskan cruise. Even though things are a little less formal most of the time on an Alaskan cruise, even on Princess, jeans do not work on formal night. Please remember to bring excellent binoculars along........not for formal night but for every single day.
keithm Posted June 20, 2017 #31 Share Posted June 20, 2017 I love jeans as much as most people (especially the slim leg jegging type), but other than one pair for touring in cooler weather i find jeans way more bulkier and heavier to pack. Khakis, light fabric trousers look so much nicer and are lighter. Sent from my iPhone using Forums That's what I pack for smart casual. I do have jean shorts(Carhart)for excursions that require some hiking.
keithm Posted June 20, 2017 #32 Share Posted June 20, 2017 (edited) They must have been pretty sloppy to be turned away. I haven't worn a jacket or tie in 15 years on Princess- many different ships- and have yet to be questioned. I've seem quite a few turned away for the following: Shorts/T shirts/flip flops/bathing suit(I mean, really!) Slacks(including nice jeans) collared shirt(short or long sleeve)usually passed muster. I've seen a few get turned away in this dress style on formal nights, but not too often. Edited June 20, 2017 by keithm spelling
