Lighter Posted June 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2017 we will be in Perce on Oct. 11. Will there still be birds/gannets on the island?
Jolie_Cruiser Posted June 28, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2017 I am no ornithologist, but here is what I found about the Northern Gannet colony of île Bonaventure (Bonaventure Island near Percé). A French tourist asked the same question in another forum. Here is the answer from poster Franchie roughly translated. He/She got the information from the guides on the island. The Gannet chicks start flying at the end of September. They learn how to feed themselves and then leave the island in the first 2 weeks of October. Parents leave afterwards. Is it like that every year? It must depend when the birds arrive. Mid-September, this poster saw many birds with chicks still in their nests. For reference purpose here is the French Voyage Forum where I found the answer: https://voyageforum.com/discussion/fous-bassan-en-octobre-gaspesie-d5527123/
