ColoradoGurl Posted July 4, 2017 #29 Share Posted July 4, 2017 OMG, this place is on the beach only two blocks from the Embassy Suites - great food and location. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g2665727-d6378705-Reviews-El_Alambique_Beach_Front_Bar_and_Grill-Isla_Verde_Carolina_Puerto_Rico.html Ah bummer. In our defense we were 2 girls walking around in unfamiliar territory at 9pm in the dark, so we just headed towards the lights. metoo Posted July 5, 2017 #32 Share Posted July 5, 2017 I like Caleta 64 (www.caleta64.com). It's a building with 4 apartments, with kitchenettes and washer and dryer. It's about a half a block from the San Juan Cathedral and El Convento. You can see both from the building. We stayed in the La Puerta apartment before a cruise a few years ago. Next January, we will be staying in the Casablanca apartment. Owners are the Garcias who own a shop around the corner.
RCmommy Posted July 6, 2017 #33 Share Posted July 6, 2017 There is no longer a casino, as of 2015. The only casino out there is at the Embassy Suites, isla verde (on Tartak Street). ColoradoGurl Posted July 6, 2017 #34 Share Posted July 6, 2017 How close would you say the Embassy Suites is to the cruise ship piers? Sent from my iPad using Forums Not close at all, about a $20-$30 cab ride depending on how many people you have and how much luggage (they charge per piece of luggage). There really isn't any hotel that's close enough to walk, but if you want to be closer, you're best off in Old San Juan. I do like this hotel though, it's got lots of room (as all Embassy Suites do because they have a separate bedroom and separate living room area, which is great for families or people with lots of luggage, or varied sleep schedules) for virtually the same price as a regular hotel room, plus they offer free breakfast. You'll need to take a cab to get to old San Juan, as well as to the pier. It's close to the airport though (about a 5 min drive).
