ChoosinCruisin60 Posted July 3, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2017 Hello: Has anyone done the final day Windsor Castle and onto Heathrow for departure home on their cruiseline? Was it worth it on your final day? Were there any complications or delays getting to Heathrow? I have a later enough flight that Celebrity says should be fine (but just concerned about getting to Heathrow on time especially late August chaos). Is luggage/carry on actually loaded onto Excursion Coach Bus at the dock or does cruse line have to keep luggage and get it to Heathrow (YIKES). I assume if luggage and carry on is put on Coach Bus - it's safe while we're touring the town and castle etc.? Thank you!!
scgirlatheart Posted July 3, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2017 We did this just last month after a Royal Caribbean cruise. We loved Windsor castle. It was a fantastic way to end our trip. Our luggage and carry ons were on the same bus as us. The bus was locked while in Windsor so we could leave items on the bus without worries . No problems getting to Heathrow and we were there with plenty of time. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

easyboy Posted July 4, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 4, 2017 Just like any airport transfer where your luggage stays with you on the bus. The bus just does a stop (at shore excursion site like Windsor) before going to Heathrow. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Forums mobile app
WatchHill Posted July 4, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 4, 2017 We just returned from a Princess transfer with Windsor tour and drop off at LHR on July 1st. We did a similar transfer two years ago with a stop at Stonehenge and based our decision on the prior excellent tour. Big mistake. We were delayed getting off the ship in Southampton, the guide was not very good, and he further announced that there were a few passengers who had flights earlier than the suggested cut off time, so we have less time in Windsor. We got to Windsor Coach Park and were re-grouped and led toward the castle. ALl luggage was on the bus and locked while we were on tour. OMG, the lines to get in were down the side street and moved slowly. We were in line for over an hour before we entered the first building, then the guide got our wrist bands and we go into another line. From there belts, watches, all electronics, etc., needed to be scanned. This was another very slow process. Finally, we were inside a court yard and guided toward the State Rooms. We quickly walked through the doll house and made it through the rooms without any time to inquire about the decor or view the beautiful furnishings. With limited time left, we headed to St. George's to see the interior and historic tombs. By now, it was time to return to the bus and no time to wander through the myriad of quaint shops. We arrived at LHR, Terminal 5 about 1:30PM, collected our luggage and headed inside to check the monitors for the correct luggage drop time and location. Our flight was scheduled for 6:20PM , too early to drop the luggage, so we decided to enjoy a light lunch and beverage at a restaurant behind the check-in counters. We kept the luggage on the carts while dining. Problems do happen and our transfer was not what we expected. Delays getting off the ship do happen, but IMO, a tour like this should have expedited entry into the Castle.....maybe Celebrity contracts with a vendor who can do this. Rare John Bull Posted July 4, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 4, 2017 Windsor is only about 6 to 8 miles from Heathrow. Any delays earlier in your day won't affect the time you leave Windsor for Heathrow, the lost time will simply be knocked off the time allowed in Windsor. A safe way of doing things JB :)
flamomo Posted July 4, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 4, 2017 Besides the option of a tour/transfer thru the cruise line, check out the ones offered by International Friends. Depending on the time of your flight, they do have tour/transfer service to Heathrow. We were going to London for a couple of days post-cruise, and used IF. They picked us up at Southampton, took us to Stonehenge, Salisbury, and Windsor Castle, then on to London and dropped us off at the entrance to our hotel. Our driver and our guide were great, and even hauled our luggage from the bus to inside the door of the hotel when we got there! When we booked, we did it thru the London Toolkit site, and got a discount. Also if you are a senior citizen they give a discount.
