Thanks to all you locals for your info. One last question before we leave for FLL Friday morning( then the Jewel Saturday). We are staying at the Bahia marr Friday night and we would like to know what there is to do within walking distance (we walk a lot,20 to 30 min 1 way no problem) andcan we walk to the Bahia Cabana at the Days inn or should we get a land taxie or the water taxie? Thanks.

I stayed at this hotel last March and loved it. The beach is right across the street. You just need to walk across the catwalk and your on the beach. The water taxi is also here, you can go to Olas Blvd. on the water taxi and do all the walking, shopping and eating you want. Great spot. Enjoy!!

Bahia Cabana is right next door to the marina, it's a 5 minute walk, but why would you want to walk THERE? It's just an old dumpy motel.

Take the Water Taxi from Bahia Mar to Las Olas Blvd. and walk THAT street... http://www.lasolasboulevard.com/

Or if you really want to walk, then walk north, up the beach to the shops and restaurants up there, and at Beach Place... But Las Olas Blvd., just east of downtown Fort Lauderdale is MUCH better/nicer! :)

Thanks trent, we saw some good write ups by locals and others on the Bahia cabana (good happy hour, food, and not overpriced, plus on the water) but you guys are in the know so it looks like Las olas blvd will be the direction to go. Dw loves mexican food(from la) any hints there.

There are a number of restaurants on Las Olas Blvd... http://www.lasolasboulevard.com/new/dining.htm

And on the beach, but I can't think of any Mexican off the top of my head.

The only decent Mexican place that comes to mind is Carlos & Pepe's on SE 17th Street. You could take the Water Taxi to the Marina Marriott stop and walk west, it's on the south side of the street in the strip mall between the Holiday Inn Express & Extended Stay America and the Embassy Suites.
