Question about evenings on board Princess

About half of the year has times when schools are not in session and thus there will be lower average age on a cruise since families with children and their relatively young parents will cruise.

The other half of the year will find a higher number of retired people on cruises as they are not bound by school or work schedules.

What you say is very obvious when we go in the fall. The retired older folks are just waiting to go to the Caribbean after the ships return to Ft Lauderdale & the snow birds from Canada just can't wait to board.

Kids here generally start school this coming week, although a few started last week. This just seems too early--it used to be the end of August. We do get out of school around May 20 though.

Fall and early winter cruises (except Thanksgiving) will have the least kids/college age students. We have been on cruises, including Princess, in early December with as few as 8 kids total.

We had a balcony on the Coral Princess in September of 2015. One of the last Alaska cruises for the season.

We were in bed most nights by 10 pm. Never a problem with noise. Actually it was very quiet the whole cruise.

The only day it was kind of crazy was when we were in the glaciers. But that was to be expected. No big deal.

Don't think you will have any trouble.

Where in Nebraska?

It use to be that school started later so that the kids could help with the farm and harvest. Then as Omaha and Lincoln got bigger and grabbed all the power it did not seem to matter any longer because it was not a problem for Lincoln and Omaha.

Also schools start earlier because of the federal mandated longer (or more) school days. It has become popular to have winter breaks as well as spring breaks, so that moves it back. In Tucson they close schools for Rodeo Days, that is another week,

We live west of Norfolk. I do realize that schools here used to have breaks for the convenience of farm families. And of course mandates on days of school make a difference too. We used to start the week after the County Fairs were on; now, most County Fairs have moved up into July or early August, partly because of the school schedule.

Another reason schools start earlier now is that almost all schools are air-conditioned. I taught quite a few years; we'd always get some late August, early Sept. days in the 90's. Sometimes my classroom was over 90--not much learning went on those days. We did usually have an early out though, like 1 pm.

Our breaks aren't much different than they used to be--maybe a couple of days more, and of course there are snow days built in. We have a very short 'spring' break of maybe 2-3 days, but at least we do get out from mid to late May. I'd hate to be going to school in June even more than August.
