garykool81 Posted December 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 2, 2005 Anyone know about a security threat regarding the Queen Mary 2? I was passed along an email saying that the stop in San Juan had been slashed from the itinerary due to a security issue of some sort. The person said that armed crew members were seen onboard the ship, and that the passengers and crew were on "highest alert." I don't know if there is any substance to this, but wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone knows more.
Cunard Cruiser Posted December 2, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 2, 2005 As far I as I am aware San Juan had been slashed from the 2005 itineraries due the dredging of the harbor. We were on QE2 last Year at XMAS and had many problems leaving the Harbor (QE2 & QM2 share the same draft). There was so much muck coming up from the bottom when QE2 was leaving. I think this is the real reason, but I could be wrong.

garykool81 Posted December 3, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted December 3, 2005 Yeah, hopefully it is just a silly thing like that and not some sort of threat. The folks who I saw an email from were under the impression that there was a security threat of some sort onboard I guess from comments crew had made, etc.

JGR01 Posted December 4, 2005 #9 Share Posted December 4, 2005 Speaking of security...... QM2 Crossing 10 Aug NYC-Southampton..... We had a NYC police helicopter escorting/buzzing/taking photos all around the ship for a long way .. until we passed under the Verizanno Narrows bridge. The chopper really was intent on providing security tho the crew would sometimes wave when we waved from the Balconies with lifted Champagne glasses! She followed us UNDER the bridge .. went to investigate a small boat farther out .. then came back to assume the 'security' position. We also saw flashing lights on the center of the bridge itself .. tho since QM2 only clears by 2feet I can understand the desire for keeping traffic moving while she passes under! Anyone else notice the NYC Police Helicopter on other departure? Arrivals?

travelgals Posted December 5, 2005 #11 Share Posted December 5, 2005 It is very common to have an escort from the bridge to the dock in NY since 9/11. It has happened on all our trips.
