Liberty 11/26 8-day Western mini review

We too are just off the Liberty 11/26/05 sailing.

Embarkation: We were a bit late getting to port and waited almost an hour in the car before we even got to the curb to unload our luggage. Getting there early is a must and on most cruises that is what we do.

Cabin: A+ Location-Location-location. We were in cabin 1034 on Panorama deck just a few steps from the Lido pool and slide area. It was faster to go to our room to use restroom then to use the ones by the pool. This was also a plus for keeping our drinks fresh and beer in hand. The only complaint we had was our neighbours between our friends and us who did everything they could to ware out the balcony door all hours of the day and night by letting it slam. We also had a shower drain clog the first few nights but they did fix that problem.

Room Steward: A+ Always kept room clean and plenty of ice in our cooler.

Food: B- We found the food on Lido to be a bit better then on past cruises and also in the dining room on most nights but did have the cold soup too. Our waiter informed us that we were the first passengers using their new menu.

Lido Deck restaurant: C Lines and more lines and there were two stations out by the mid pools that I never even remember seeing them use that would have helped out a bunch. I will have another comment regarding Lido Deck restaurant at bottom that is a bit disturbing.

Harry's Supper Club: B- We were not all that impressed and thought that David's on the Pride was far superior.

Layout of the ship: C+ The layout was ok but I think I prefer the layout on the Spirit class ships better.

Movie Screen by pool: B This produces a great picture at night and the sound quality is good too but they really do not use it to its full potential. Ray was the only movie we watched the first night.

Piano Bar man: D- This guy Duane had no ability to get the crowd going and was just very blah. We have been on a cruise with Ed Rrocks and that has spoiled us for the Piano bar. There was a fellow passenger who played the baby grand on the Promenade that drew a much larger crowd nightly.

Casino: B Played 3 card poker and slots and probably came away a few $ up but not by much. The casino would get crowded at times in the evening.

Carnival Capers: F They have changed the layout a little on this ship and we did see many misprints and some wrong information printed as far as schedules go.

Cabin TV C+ Only watched travel log onboard video the GPS screen and the deck cams but there was CBS, NBC, ABC and a few others available and PPV movies. You could also pull up your S&S account and the nights dinner menu. They did make mistakes on the menu too a few times we would get all excited about an item on the menu and get to the dining room to find it was not on the menu there.

Cruise Director (Brent Mitchell) B Ok but no John Heald for sure.

Art Auction: F What a scam this is.

Spa Carnival: A- Same as above review. Enjoyed it !

Ports of call: B Too short and rushed in Costa Maya we spent the day at the pool at the little shopping and bar area ashore. Costa Rica we did Aerial tram and were late getting back to ship so our bus got a load cheer from the decks as we boarded. This was a long day with no food or drink provided and no time to check out the shops. Colon Panama we did the 2 Oceans by Railroad and got the seat in the VIP First class double Decker glass covered dome car and our guide Marty was a blast. but this tour was also rushed at the other end only having 10 minutes to stop at some little Free Zone Mall to shop and again getting back to the ship right at sail away that happened about 45 minutes late.

Disembarkation: D- major log jam-up at the stairs and elevators. We waited for our luggage color to be called while in our cabin and headed down the stairs when we got to about deck 4 and a half we stopped and just got sandwiched in the stair wells for a good 45 minutes before getting off and the temperature was rising fast not only the air but some of the people too.

Now regarding the Lido deck. We ended up eating dinner on Lido Friday night wich was a formal night because a spa appointment ran late and did not allow time to make our 8PM dinner. So up on Lido as we were eating around 9PM I noticed one of the waiters kind of standing at the drink station and he grabbed one of the plastic cups got some ice and his beverage then took a few big gulps next I see him dump the remainder of the contents under the dispenser run a splash of water into the bottom of the cup and return the cup to the stack of what are supposed to be clean cups. YUCK! I will be taking my own thermal cups for sure next time since I am already not impressed with those cups to begin with and seeing that tops it all off. We did make a trip to the Purser's desk to report what we had observed.

We did have to make a stop in the Grand Caymans to drop off a very sick passenger which they sent a Tender out to the ship and loaded her and her family on. The rumor was that she was ill from cancer and not a cruise ship virus. However about midway through the cruise we noticed they put these little dispensers on the inside of the public bathroom doors that let you get this little 4x4 inch paper to grab the door handle and a small trash can outside to dispose of it. These may have been there all along but did not notice until later on into the cruise and don't know if it was related to the passenger that we unloaded off the ship in Grand Cayman.

We will most likely cruise with Carnival again in the future but maybe not this ship again.

What time did you arrive at the port for embarkation? We are going down a day early, and want to plan our arrival accordingly. I didn't want to arrive so early that we had to wait to get in line, but it sounds like the earlier the better!

You mentioned keeping your drinks fresh and beer. Did you bring your own or did you purchase it. If so, How did you bring it on board. Thanks..

We brought some of our own and purchased some too. Just put it into your checked in luggage.
