Idiotabroad Posted September 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2017 Hello all.. I am going on the above in October. The ports are Gibraltar/Casablanca/portimao/Lisbon/Cadiz/Malaga. I would like to do my own thing rather than excursions. How easy is it to get to the towns independently from the ports? Thanks
Rare John Bull Posted September 16, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2017 Gib. It's a 20 minute level walk from ship to Main Street. Or jump a minibus tour of the Upper Rock at the cruise terminal, about £25 incl all admissions, takes about 2 hours, driver can take you back to the ship or most folk jump out at Casemates Square, at the bottom of Main Street, for a beer / coffee / snack & then walk the shops, pubs & sights of Main Street then walk back to the ship. Casablanca/Portimao, sorry can't help. Lisbon. Depends where you berth. One berth right in the town, the other is near Belem Tower & you need transport - bus, hop-on bus, tram/train or taxi for a 5 minute ride to town. Cadiz. Big oblong port, berth one side & you're 2 mins from town, the other side as much as 15 to 20 min walk. Malaga. Berth is a bit too far to walk (?). Hop-on bus stop at the berth, doubtless also local buses & taxis JB :)

jocap Posted September 17, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2017 Casablanca usually has shuttle buses because you moor in a busy dock; the bus goes to the main square where there may be taxis or travel agents with suggestions... Cadiz also has HoHo buses at the dock side; some people on our last cruise there found a tapas trail to follow round the peninsula. Malaga's new terminal has shuttles to the part of the dock opposite the town; there's also a town beach if you just want to walk down the long pier with the lighthouse. If you walk to Gib's bus station in the market place, you can catch a bus to near the cable car- for a senior it was less than £2... the people on board were amazingly helpful.
