Istanbul - guides

We're on the Nautica 6/20 Istanbul to Athens. We've decided to set up our own tour for the single full day that we have available. Are there any specific suggestions as to sites and tour guides which would help us make the most of our one day in town. Thanks, Elliot, Port Jefferson, NY

My husband and I hired Levent Solmaz (www.leventsolmaz.com) for 3 days when we were in Istanbul in October. He was excellent.

 

For one day, I recommend Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, the underground cistern, St. Saviour in Chora (beautiful mosaics). This is a lot to see in one day, but it's all great stuff. Then there's the spice market, the bazaar, etc.
