Cash in Costa Maya? US or Pesos?

Is US cash widely accepted for things like taxis and beaches (chair rentals, food, etc)? Oe do I need to exchange $? Thanks.

US $ is the expected currency from cruisers. Bring small denomination bills so you can make exact change.

Yes we used cash for everything.....one funny thing though; at the beach I tried to use a $100 bill and they lady at El Faro wouldn't take it because it was slightly torn....haha It was an elderly lady that was taking the money for your bill in the restaurant at the end of our day. There was a man arguing with her telling her it was ok but she wouldn't budge!!!! (They were talking in Spanish but I could tell he was telling her it was ok) I thought it was rather comical. But anyway I had to use other money to pay her, no big deal. I just got a good chuckle out of it.
