Carnival Magic questions

Great suggestions I'm reading from everyone. :)

A couple questions. Someone mentioned the "wrap around deck." Am I understanding that it is a deck that goes completely around the ship? If so, what deck is it, as I try walking as much as I can.

Also, I don't like the smoke from the casino, even though part of it is "supposed" to be smoke free??? My question, is there anyway (don't know which one it will be at this time) I can come down from deck 6 to one of the MDR, and "avoid" the casino?

If you are assigned to the Southern Lights dining room at the rear of the ship, you can take the last set of elevators/or steps from deck 6 and will be right at the dining room entrance. No need to walk through the casino.

We sailed the Magic a couple weeks ago and loved it. Despite the size, we never felt "crowded" as we felt on the Sunshine. Our room was the lido desk and we had a balcony. We were impressed with the food options and entertainment.

No one has mentioned the muster drill on this ship. We sat in a lounge.

This was the first time we did not have to line-up outside with groups of people under the lifeboats. Rather, we simply went to the indoor lounge/theater and sat in comfy chairs for the drill. It was wonderful. By the way, what other Carnival ships offer this style of Muster Drill?

A first for us on the Magic was the new Guy's BBQ food on deck 5. I loved it but was disappointed to learn it was only open on Sea Days. Our second sea day rained heavily and despite the rains, the crowds lined-up for a BBQ lunch. It would be nice to have a covered waiting area.

Other posters mentioned the lack of deck chairs but we had no trouble. Could be a function of the crowds. Max capacity is 6K including staff - we had 5300 total on our cruise.

Would totally would sail the Magic again. Also I am a fan of the small ships (loved the Liberty as another poster stated). The Cruise Director, Dr. E was phenomenal. He and Matt Mitchem (sp?) are top notch.

As a non-smoker and did not love walking through the casino - but oh well. The Alchemy set-up did feel very different but I assumed was due to the additional areas not found on other ships like the Red Frog Pub.

My advice is to enjoy the Magic !! It has a lot to offer.

(snip)

Other the the Lido (that is what I call it), MDR, ice cream and Pizza, what are the names of other places where the food is FREE? In other words, most of these are small snack places.

There will be no shortage of food options on this trip. Actually, too many to even try them all !!

BREAKFAST - FREE

sea days - MDR sea day brunch (bkfst-lunch) /// port days - MDR regular breakfast (main dining room)

Blue Iguana - mexican breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros (yum)

Lido buffet (p.s. I love the oatmeal on ship!)

SeaDogs - hotdogs (I'm pretty sure this is open during lunchtime?)

Room Service

SNACKS - FREE

sea days - MDR Tea Time 3pm - YUM!!

select days - Taste Bar 5:30-8:30 - small bites appetizers

My husband is reluctant to try this ship because he feels the wrap around deck will make the balconies on 7 and 8 feel not as private. Can anyone comment on that?

We had a balcony on Deck 8 last summer. DH says he prefers a balcony without a walkway below. It didn't bother me at all. It was quiet most of the time with lunch time being the exception, but only when the Pig and Anchor was open. I'm not sure I'd book a balcony on 6 or 7, but 8 was fine. Also be adviced that smoking is allowed on deck 5 on one side, but I can't remember which side. We stayed starboard and had no issue with smoke though.

Sailed Magic last summer and would happily sail her again!

Pros: We loved all the dining options - we don't do specailty dining. We liked all the shaded seating. We found a great seating area right above the aft pool. It was a couch, two chairs, and a coffee table. Our family camped there all day on the sea days. The pool was right there, waitstaff frequented, it was near the bathrooms and Lido...perfect. We loved Dr. E and the rest of the entertainment staff. We particiapted in a lot of the trivia and games. DH, DS and myself got on stage for Family Game Night. I still think DS thought we were really on TV. We loved Ocean Plaza as a place to hang out. The Alchemy and Red Frog were right there. There was always great music and a fun crowd. Camp Ocean Staff was great. DS had a great time. We also all really enjoyed the water park. We all did the water slides and had fun. It is a really great size.

Cons: The layout seemed chopped up to me. On one deck - 3 maybe you would have to go up to 4 then back down to 3 to get to the aft of the ship. The pools were crowded one the sea days. It grossed me out a little actually, there was wall to wall people in the pools. The movies showed at odd times. We would miss the beginning of the 1st one because we had early seating, but would have to leave the 2nd one early to pick up our son from Camp Ocean (we won't pay extra for babysitting). The casino was super smoky, but not any more smoky than other ships. We weren't impressed with the comedians, but that's just bad luck.

None of these "cons" are unique to the Magic though (except the layout, but that's not a deal breaker). We've been on several different cruise lines a various times of the year and experienced similar things on each cruise. We're looking at a Summer 2019 cruise on Magic and we know we'll have a great time!
