ohiowilly Posted November 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2017 I've seen excursions for a hike to the top of Mount Liamuiga volcano. I've read varying reports on just how strenuous this climb really is. Can anyone provide some personal experiences on just how tough this hike really is? Thanks for your help. JustAGirl79 Posted November 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 20, 2017 Didn't see this post earlier - it's strenuous. My SO and I did it in January 2016. Took about 2.25 hours up and 2 hours coming back down. It's quite steep and very slippery, lots of rocks, tree roots, branches to climb over. 16 of us started out on the hike, but 2 gave up after about a half hour. Going up was very tough in terms of cardiovascular fitness, but coming down was hard on the knees and from the slippery-ness. I'm in reasonably good shape, but yes, it was hard - make sure to wear very supportive footwear. I'd suggest hiking shoes that go over your ankles for a bit more support (but maybe that's just me). My SO wore runners and his grip wasn't as good. There are videos posted on YouTube. Check them out for glimpses of the terrain.
paul58 Posted November 21, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 21, 2017 I did it over 20 years ago. It was was tough then and I am sure it has not gotten any easier. With the increased tourism on the island and more people doing this excursion it is probably easier to stay on the trail but if there is rain it can get pretty muddy and slippery.
