kme Posted December 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2005 Okay, so now that I have your attention - question is simple: Is wearing a tux with a long tie vs. traditional bow tie a little less dressy? Thanks for you input!
Cruise Arizona Posted December 14, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 14, 2005 I think it is a little less dressy, but still formal by cruise terms, beacause it is still dressier than a dark suit, which is acceptable for formal on most lines. If you look on my cruise fashion thread there is a link to my cruise fashion page and you'll see my DH in both bow ties and a long tie.
BlueHerons Posted December 14, 2005 #3 Share Posted December 14, 2005 The long tie is between the classic bow tie and a regular suit tie. Personally, I don't care for anything but a classic tuxedo.
caviargal Posted December 14, 2005 #4 Share Posted December 14, 2005 I have never seen this myself. I like the traditional bow tie that is tied by hand, more elegant IMO. Now, I have actually seen string ties with tuxes and really did not care for the look.
MrsMoose2001 Posted December 14, 2005 #5 Share Posted December 14, 2005 Are we talking like the celebs wear on TV with their tuxes? I think both can be nice, depends on the man in my opinion. I don't know if one is considered more formal, I do know that some places want the bow tie. When I had to wear formal for Mardi Gras Crewe balls in New Orleans, only a white bow tie was acceptable at the Crewe I belonged to. Actually it was white tie/tails and white gloves mandatory. All the men looked like penguins, it was cute.
CDRMark Posted December 14, 2005 #6 Share Posted December 14, 2005 The bow tie is more formal than the satin version of the traditional necktie you refer to. I have two; one silver grey, one black..nice change sometimes. Cheers MarkB
