Robrph Posted December 16, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2005 just returned from the Golden Princess and have to mention the really poor shore excursion we were involved with in St. Kitts. It was called the 4 wheel drive Sothern Peninsula exploration. This was probably the worst ship's excursion we've ever taken and is the main reason we usually avoid ship's excursions altogether. We were travelling with another couple and ended up booking this tour at the last minute. Everyone (about 20 people) is crammed into the back of a old British army troop carrier. DO NOT sit at the front of the vehicle or you will be blasted by the wind and poisoned by the diesel fumes from the truck! It is a very bumpy ride even on smooth roads. St Kitts is very hilly, and the truck barely made it up them. The "short hike" mentioned in the literature ended up to be a half-mile climb up a large hill with sticker bushes all around the area. DO NOT wear sandals on this tour- women in sandals suffered scratched feet and legs. Several stops are made along the way to take photos from the hilltops. Then we were taken to a "beach"- small patch of sand with NO FACILITIES. If one had to use a restroom, the alternatives were the woods or the ocean! The tour lasted 3 1/2 hours and never made a stop where there were bathroom facilities. DISGRACEFUL!! We complained to representatives at the purser's desk on our return, but they only provided sympathy for the situation. This is one tour to be avoided !!!! anankae Posted January 2, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2006 j The "short hike" mentioned in the literature ended up to be a half-mile climb Well, a half mile hike *IS* a short hike. DO NOT wear sandals on this tour- women in sandals suffered scratched feet and legs. Rob I wouldn't dream of wearing anything but shoes suitable for hiking on a hike.
