txadmin2 Posted December 21, 2005 #3 Share Posted December 21, 2005 We will be on Mariner of the Seas on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. I'm hoping for a big New Year's Eve Party even though that is our last night. Am I going to be disappointed?
Bonnie J. Posted December 21, 2005 #4 Share Posted December 21, 2005 This will be our 4th or 5th New Years Eve cruise and we love crusing then! Celebrations are always on deck with waiters walking around with free champaigne (I can't spell!). On one ship the hot tub was FILLED, with ice- a huge mound of ice. This is how they chilled all the champaigne! There is music and dancing and a count down to midnight. One ship had its own falling ball, another a BIG TV from Times Square for the count down. Eveyone counts down! Only once were there fireworks. This was on the OLD,TINY Dolphin for the Melenium. (The Dolphin is probably a reef somewhere now!) We were actually docked in Mallory Square, Key West. Ships are not allowed to dock there after 4PM because of all the tourists and the sunset. So, a tug took us out by the navy pier at 4PM. Then, at 6PM the sun was down and the tug brought us back. There were fireworks on both sides of the ship. We spent the night there and left the next day. Because of fire danger, ships do not have any fireworks. Once in Cozumel the ship left at 10PM instead of midnight. Think they were afraid a bunch of people wouldn't make it back to ship from Carlos & Charlies! Just realized our 1st New Years was on the OLD Oceanbreeze with Bert Stratton. (He's now with Princess) Could not believe all the streamers on all the fans in the lounge where Bert was playing. It was ankle deep! But, the next morning there was no sign of it at all! Oh, in the dining room we all got hats and noise makers. You will have a ball! (Might end up kissing people you'll never see again - its really festive!) Let us know how your ship celibrates - We'll be on NCL's Majesty - Dec.27th-Jan. 7th!
serene56 Posted December 21, 2005 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2005 I doubt very much you will gt fireworks on a cruise--even for new years eve. Its a fire hazzard.. fireworks if you are in a port-- SOme ships have this as a formal night--but depends i guess when you are coming back. Cant imagine a formal night if you are coming home the next morning. (luggage still has to be set out by a certain time
