near the Holiday on the Beach. My in laws now have booked the cruise with us and was wondering how close is it to some decent places to eat? We had planned on walking down the board walk to somewhere, but not sure if my father in law can walk that far.

There's no boardwalk in Fort Lauderdale

The Holiday Inn on Fort Lauderdale Beach (at Sunrise Blvd. & A1A if that's the hotel you're referring to) is in an area with a few small restaurants and bars. The only one I know to be good is a small Italian place a couple blocks west of it on Sunrise Blvd. called Franco & Vinny's. It's at the base of the bridge. If you wanted to walk down the beach to the restaurants along the beach you'll need a taxi, it would be a rather long walk!

You can also get to a large number of restaurants on Las Olas Blvd., or along the water by using the Water Taxi... http://www.watertaxi.com/FortLauderdale/FLLHome.Asp

Some popular places easily accessible by Water Taxi are...

15th Street Fisheries... http://www.15streetfisheries.com/

Jackson's Steakhouse... http://www.jacksonssteakhouse.com/

Shirttail Charlie's... http://www.shirttailcharlies.com/

Fort Lauderdale Riverhouse... http://www.ftlauderdaleriverhouse.com/

Downtowner Saloon... http://www.downtownersaloon.com/

Shooter's Waterfront Cafe, and at the same stop Taverna Opa... http://tavernaoparestaurant.com/

Charlie's Crab... http://www.muer.com/locations/chcrab...ab-ftlaud.html

The many many restaurants and shops along beautiful Las Olas Blvd... http://www.lasolasboulevard.com/

And Las Olas Riverfront... http://www.riverfrontfl.com/

The nearest Water Taxi stop is at the Doubletree Guest Suites, 3 blocks west of the Holiday Inn and across the bridge.

A block beyond the Doubletree is the Galleria Mall with some nice restaurants as well... http://www.galleriamall-fl.com/
