Rosie’sMom Posted January 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2018 (edited) Hello everyone! I’m cruising with Royal Caribbean - Independence of the Seas this March. In Cozumel, my dream is to snorkel over a reef. The only excursion offered by the ship that includes this is called “Starfish Sanctuary and Palancar Reef Snorkel”. 4 hours for $59. I would normally try to do this independent of the ship, but this is my first ever cruise, I’ve never been to Mexico, and I’m traveling alone. Has anyone done this excursion? Pros/cons? Ideas/advice? Thanks for any help! Edited January 18, 2018 by Rosie’sMom Wasn’t finished.
JohninDC Posted January 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2018 We booked independently a couple of years ago with Eagle Ray and were happy. There is another thread near the top of this board "Snorkeling Cozumel for scaredy cats" that has a recent review of an independent excursion similar to what you describe. Cozumel is one of the easiest and safest ports in the Caribbean to book independent of the cruise line - I would not limit your choices to just ship sponsored excursions. Rosie’sMom Posted January 19, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted January 19, 2018 Thank you for your help JohninDC. You’ve given me reassurance to book a private tour - I think I’ll be happier with that. I’m also watching the other thread you mentioned. Would it be best to have something pre-booked, or will I be okay to just wait until I get there? Thanks again!
