georgiahiker Posted January 29, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2018 Heading to Cozumel on Victory week of March 5 and debating on excursions. Anyone have any feedback on the Deluxe Beach, Catamaran Sail and Snorkel? Newbie to cruising. Thanks, Nick
asalligo Posted January 29, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2018 (edited) We have done it three times and love it. It has become a tradition for us in Cozumel. The Fury Catamaran will pick you up on the pier just across from the boat, you will see it easily when it arrives from almost anywhere in the port area. I suggest going over and loading up soon after it arrives if you want a good seat and especially in the shade. They will take you about 10 minutes down the shore to a snorkeling area where you will be able to snorkel for about 45 minutes. Some people have claimed they shorted them on this time, but I was in the water a full 45 minutes (I timed it last month when I was there). Then the free rum punch and sodas will start and they will take you another 20 minutes to a private beach which has a small shop for souvenirs, burgers and fries, lots of chairs, hammocks and day beds and many inflatable toys in the water to play on. They also have kayaks available. About an hour on the beach and it is back to the pier, free drinks here also and the crew usually start some line dancing on deck when headed back. They will take pictures and try to sell them to you, but mine were great and we bought them for $10. A tip is expected at the end. The price of the excursion is the only real downside. I could take the crew to Paradise beach for half the cost, but they really love the snorkeling on Fury. Oshawapilot Posted January 29, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2018 Do your homework before booking any standalone beach excursion - unless it's on a private island or somewhere restricted access (seldom the case), you can often make your own way there via taxi for a fraction of what the cruise lines charge you, especially when you start factoring in multiple people. That $75-$100+ per person ship excursion is sometimes little more than a ride, a chair, and a "free" drink. It really depends on how frugal you want to be if spending $200 for that when you can accomplish the same yourself for perhaps $50. I recognize the on you're looking at it a combination excursion, but just for future reference, or for other ports. ;)
