Lawrence of Antigua Tour

We had a wonderful tour with Lawrence. We booked before we left for our cruise on the Maasdam. He should be receiving his new computer soon. My husband and I paid $120 and had a private four hour tour and three hours at the beach. We paid an additional $5.00 each for entrance into the national park. If two couples go the price is the same. Lawrence did say because of gas prices his price will be going up in the new year. Try it you'll like it.

We have lawrence booked for March 1st. There will be 10 in our group. When we first booked we were quoted $25.00 but now the price has gone up to $35.00 with $10 more for the beach. We didn't like the idea of him raising the quoted price but still decided to stay with him because of the many good reviews he has had.

You won't be disappointed. Also note you were quoted 2005 prices and you are taking a the trip in 2006. As we all know quoted prices are subject to change and Lawrence just needed to change his price due to high fuel prices and many tour canceling without tell him. He is in the future looking into getting a deposit for groups over four. The no show booking are killing him.

Grumpy, you know it always surprises me how some people can be so rude and thoughtless as to not cancel or to just not show up for something they have booked. Sad, but it happens too much. :(

Yes it sure is. This week he has a group of 17 cancel a hour before they were suppose to show. Then he had a group of four booked by a travel agent who didn't show at all. So he lost over $700 that week. This is something he can't keep doing. So he is thinking of getting a deposit on group tours so at least he will get something out of it.:(

It's just a shame that people take advanage of a honest man like him.

Well I hope you enjoy your trip. I hope to be going 4/15/05...Sure hope the pineapples are ready.

Pineapples? Fresh pineapples?!

I LOVE them!

Oh, I have a story . . . when in Costa Maya I saw people selling fresh pineapples along the road. We stopped to get some sliced ones and I was sooooo excited about having the delicious pineapples. I thought it interesting that they put cinnamon on them, but thought that might be a taste treat delight. Well . . . it wasn't cinnamon, it was hot chili powder!!!!!!!! I thought, well, maybe it is something good, so I will try it.   NOT A GOOD THING!!!!!!

Would be good to get some pineapple WITHOUT hot sauce next time! Hope they are ripe!

I have to tell you that we had a great time with Lawrence ( actually Charles). We were there last week. We were escorted around by one of his other drivers who really did a great job. We stopped for pineapple and banana's, drank rum punch and beer, and had a great time.

We too had alot of cancellations, which is sad for Lawrence, who plans his day around these people. I told him he sould take deposits to ensure people showing up. This was the day after the 17 no shows. I feel bad for Lawrence. I'm sure he will be making some changes.

Turner Beach was great. I would have liked to stay there longer.

I have to ask - Whats up with the no tipping thing?? I'm amazed at the fact that people don't tip for a service well done. Did tipping go out of style? When someone helps make my day fun and memoralble I give a tip.

Well anyway Thumbs up to Lawarence and his crew. It was a great day and Antigua is a Beautiful Island.

I'm pretty amaze too.

I just found out, after talking with Lawrence, that our tour guide was Christopher not Charles. Sorry for the mistake. If you ever get Christopher he'll do you right.

Was wondering about that. I know L is trying to get more drivers but haven't found the right person besides Chris. I agreed Chris is a cool guy.

When i emailed lawrence in october about our upcoming rc empress stop in antigua, he quoted my husband and me thirty five dollars each, although he did mention a small price increase with the new year. in reading other comments here i guess that is the group rate even though we are only two. how will i know if there will be a group definately going along or not? will he just surprise us by telling us that day that the price has doubled if there is no group that he has managed to book for the date? i would certainly prefer a definate price quote before hand.

if the price does go up to sixty five per person, it becomes much more competative with what else we could do on the island for that amount of money and is no longer a super deal for the money.

What I would do is email him a week before you go or call him to find out if he has a couple booked with you. He needs a minumum of $140 to do a tour for 2006.

If you have a roll call for the ship you are sailing and are chatting with others I recommend you try and get some people together to take the tour.We are using Lawrence for our stay in April and we have 22 cruise critics that signed up.He has a van that will hold up to 28 people. Have heard very good reviews about him.Try and see if you can get fellow Cruise Critics to sign up and you will be sure to lock in your rate.

We are considering booking with Lawrence but have a few questions maybe some of you that have gone can help answer. First, there are 6 of us and we like to keep a tour to the 6 of us or maybe add one more couple but thats it. When I emailed Lawrence he said he has a bus. That we didn't like - constantly waiting for everyone to get off & on and finding the wonderers. But from what I'm reading he has to have something smaller. Second, at the beach he uses, is it nice? Are there bathrooms? Are there chairs, shade (we have 2 real fair people)? I know at a lot of these beaches you have to rent everything and if it is $10 for a chair & $10 for an umbrella for a couple hours, it isn't worth it and now that makes the tour quite expensive.

We leave in February so any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Peggy

Well let see what I can answer for you. Yes he has a 28 person bus. He has to have at least 4 person or $140 to do a tour. He also has a 14 person bus so he can take small groups. But remember he is a business so he might not be your driver. He doesn't do the get off and on like you say. His groups meet him at the dock and thats it for the day no wonderers. There is a bathroom for changing on the beach. I don't know about chairs or Umbrella's.

Now the best bet I would do is contact Lawrence to see if he can set you up in his small bus for your group. Maybe his driver Chris can take you in it.

Now you never know L might not have anyone on the day you are there and you will have a big bus to yourself. So contact him to see what other groups he has schedule for that day you are there.;)

I'm told chairs are $5 and the umbrella are where there are. I guess they are permanent.

It's cheaper if you don't go to the beach so you may want to consider that option. The beach was very nice and there were chairs for rent, but I'm not sure about the umbrellas.
