Dining in Copenhagen, help please!

Recommended Posts

We are booked on the Sept 12 Star Princess sailing from Copenhagen.

Planning to stay at the Marriott (breakfast included) However since I understand is a bit on the pricey side to eat in the City can anyone suggest some budget friendly places for lunch and dinner?

Thanks bunches!

We were there in July and did find restaurant prices to be expensive.

We enjoyed Cafe Norden, Cafe Europa and the Dubliner, all in the same area of one of the squares on the Stroget. It depends partly on what you order, but none of these were inexpensive. The most expensive dinner we had was in one of the outdoor cafes in Nyhavn. We had compared menus at several Nyhavn restaurants and found them all to have rather high prices. For lunch we enjoyed the mobile hot dog vendors on more than one occasion, which were cheap.

We were on Crystal's Symphony in August. We stayed at the Marriott for a few days before embarkation. While not particularly inexpensive, we had a wonderful lunch at Petit Apotek, which is a long walk from the Marriott and a couple blocks off of the main shopping street. It was highly recommended by several sources, including the concierge at the Marriott. It's the oldest restaurant in Copenhagen - translates to the "Little Pharmacy". We sat outside and had wonderful indigenous food and some good, cold Carlsberg (light for me, dark for DW).

If you're going to be visiting Tivoli Gardens, have lunch there. They have over 20 restaurants. Anything from hot dog and ice cream stands to fine dining establishments. We had dinner at one of the nice italian restuarants. It wasn't cheap but wasn't over the top either.

We ate twice while in Copenhage. First evening we ate at the Hard Rock next to Tavoli. Prices were about what you would expect. As usual, there is a McDonald's not far as well. On the day we left, we had brunch while walking Nyanhaven. Very nice waiter which gave us some local tips for our walking tour that day. Price was not too bad. Here's a tip, make sure you eat before you leave the ship when you return, we didn't had to wait quite a while for things to open!

BLS,

We ate at an "all-you-can-eat" pizza and salad bar restaurant. For the two of us, with wine and beer extra, the cost came to $35. It was on the same street as the Tivoli entrance near the train station.

For lunch one day, we wanted to use up our kroners, so we ate at McDonald's. 30 kroner bought us two cheeseburgers and we shared a milkshake.

We just booked the Sept. 2 Star Princess and are trying to find a convenient and not overly expensive hotel. Did your TA book the Marriott or did you do it yourself online? We've been told the Radisson SAS Royal is convenient, but haven't nailed down the price yet. TA quoted $245 per person, which seems high. What about the Marriott? Any advice from anyone will be appreciated.

We stayed at the Sofitel which is right across from the train station and Tavoli Gardens. It is just a couple of blocks away from the Radisson and Marriott. The prices are going to be higher as long as you're staying in the city center, however you won't have any surprised as long as you stay with a well know hotel.

We are booked at the Palace Hotel for 3 nights pre-cruise. It is a little pricey but right on city square convenient to the tour buses. It is costing about $200 per night which isn't too bad if you devide it betwen two people. I made the reservation through Bookings online hotel reservations, they don't charge your credit card until you leave.

Happy cruising

We are on the August 11th sailing on Holland America Amsterdam and pre- and post-cruise we are staying at the Marriot. When we called late November it was basically booked with the exception of corner rooms or suites, we went for a suite as my husband has some Marriot points...rooms ran around $245 and suites are $330, very expensive, we only considered staying there because of the fact that we could use our points for two nights. So happy to hear about the Petit Apotek we had trouble even on the web finding what we would consider a restaurant that serves typical Danish food if there is such a thing and a restaurant with outstanding seafood or Smorgasboard. Gosh, everything is so expensive, we live in New England and can't even afford to visit New York City too often because of the expense and the Europeans are flocking there because of the exchange rate.

We are on the 9/2 Star sailing also and we have the Marriott for a 3 night pre stay at a rate of $95.00 per night plus tax through Priceline. Seems to be a good rate. Steve
