Food is a very personal taste topic.

 

My husband reports of food on the side so we have had the experience of dining at exceptional restaurants in New York and elsewhere. That said, we have never had a bad meal on any of our eight cruises on HAL.

 

Does food in the dining room on the ship match a meal by Daniel Boulud or Anita Lo? Of course not. But we have mostly enjoyed our meals on HAL; once in a while there is a dud but that can even happen in fancy restaurant.

In our experience, the quality and taste of food can vary depending on lots of factors. Since many edible supplies are sourced locally, some will be better than others. We have been on cruises where MDR menus are bland and the food is underspiced. We have been on some that were excellent. Some of the variety has been reduced because of lack of popularity....getting Indonesian, asian or Indian food in the MDR is a chore, but is available in the Lido for lunch. We have been successful in getting an Indonesian meal by special request...if your waiter will ask the cook or his supervisor. We have had similar food experiences on Celebrity and RCCL. If you look at posts over the years, you will find very individual opinions on food. Good, great or just ok, cruisers don't seem to leave cruises lighter than when they boarded.
