Dover to Dover Cruise

We must stay an extra night in London on May 20, 2006 in order to catch our flight to the US on May 21st. We are flying out of Gatwick. Any suggestions as to a hotel that might be convenient to Gatwick? Also, does the train go from downtown London out to Gatwick?

Have you considered staying the night in Dover and taking the train to Gatwick on the morning of the 21st? Last May we flew into Gatwick, and stayed in Dover at the Churchill hotel, prior to sailing on the Constellation. Gatwick was a much better option than Heathrow, sure didn't miss the massive crowds and long walks. You can get Brit Rail train from Dover Priory to Gatwick, it's a 2hr 5min trip. The Churchill hotel overlooks the Dover Harbor, and is a 15 min cab ride from the cruise terminal. Some interesting sights in Dover if you haven't been there before. To answer your question there are trains that go from downtown London to Gatwick. You can check the Brit Rail schedules and fares online.
