Happyholgirl Posted March 8, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 8, 2018 Hi , we are on the discovery 2 for 2 weeks , September 28th 18. One of the ports is Venice , and just wanted to ask advice on getting into venice. Is it best to do a excursion with the ship? We have heard Venice can be confusing, and easy to get lost. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Maizyday Posted March 14, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2018 Venice is brilliant for just wandering around , even wandering aimlessly we have never got lost . Doing Venice on an organised tour would be hell in my opinion
dorlor Posted March 18, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 18, 2018 We have done Venice a couple of times but never with the ships tour. Destination Services on board leave out leaflets the day and evening before reaching a port. They are brilliant and tell you how to get around on your own, lots of other info too, including a street map. May see you there, we are booked for those two weeks, can't wait, have a great time. dwhe Posted March 19, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) As Ska man says get a day pass if you want to get around, just do a bit of research first. Walking in to Venice (St Marks) is easy, not sure if Marella provides boats like some other lines but if they do it will be more expensive but more convenient. I'm also on this one with some friends so see you all there -). Anyone know why Tui/Marella rolecalls are so quite, if they exist at all ? ormy Posted March 19, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 19, 2018 We used the ships shuttle boat to outside the Doges Palace - then just strolled around, you will not get lost. Wonderful city.
Ska man Posted March 19, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Look up at the street signs (alleyways) on every corner and it is easy to find your way around also you might find some little gems you might have missed ,also watch for pick pockets, the local police ,were putting some in a van .and shouting beware, but you get that everywhere
Sheila49 Posted March 19, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Anyone know why Tui/Marella rolecalls are so quite, if they exist at all ? I'm probably not supposed to say on here but they're all on 'social media'. There is a group for each ship.

SausPud Posted March 31, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 31, 2018 Where the ship docks is a long walk into the centre where all the sights are, so take the water shuttle bus from the ship, details will be on the paperwork in your room the day before. dwhe Posted April 4, 2018 #11 Share Posted April 4, 2018 (edited) Don't forget the people carrier (€1.50) will take you to the Roma terminal where you can catch a Vaporetto (€20 for an all day pass) Also take change for the public toilets (€1.50 a pop :o) Anyone know how much Marella charge for their boat into St Marks?
