Adults only cruises????

What happened to the Adults only cruises that Celebrity used to offer? It's nice that they have the reunion cruises, etc, but it'd be really great to have the option of an all-adult cruise again.

BTW, I'm not a "child-hater", but flame me if you must.

Its called Royal Caribbean II. Ever since Royal has been TOO involved with X its become more family friendly. Although they do not advertise like RCCL with the music , lots of kid pictures, fun things to do, Celebrity IS now a part of RCCL ...its guilt by association.

Even Crystal is now offering childrens programs.

Theres nothing I'd rather enjoy than booking a suite on a upscale line for 5 or 6 thousand dollars only to be kept awake by the shrill of a crying baby all night long..

Sigh......

Dave, I'll be taking my 15th Crystal cruise in April and you don't ever see many kids on board. In all my cruises with them, there have been less than 10 kids total on all the cruises combined. From experience, you're lucky to find any kids, with a few more during holiday sailings and some summer sailings. There are so few kids on the current Serenity sailing that they don't even have a counselor on board----Crystal says they need 15 kids minimum to have a counselor----15 kids with 1100 passengers means you're not going to see the kiddies much. Plus, kids aren't allowed in the computer room, the spa or gym, casino and I highly doubt the kids would be interested in hearing 45 minute lectures from people like Walter Cronkite. Since Crystal doesn't give a big price break to kids, even those who share the same cabin have to pay 50% of the full fare, regardless of age, you don't find many parents with infants wanting to pay $2500 for an infant to cruise.

Celebrity got rid of the adults only cruises in 2004 because of a lack of interest. When you consider how many people on these boards seem to want kid free cruises, I'm surprised by how few people booked them. I guess Celebrity didn't do a very good job promoting those adults only cruises.

The mass market lines are now catering to families, and there's no way around it. If you want a virtual kid free cruise you have to cruise for 14 days or longer, cruise Crystal, Seabourn or Silversea, or cruise the two weeks before Christmas. On our December 4 Mille cruise, there were less than 10 school age kids on board, and maybe 5 infants.

Take any of the longish (10~14nt) Celebrity cruises that start around the 3rd to 6th of December. Kids are very scarce on these. I think we had 7 out of 1500+ on our last cruise.

Thanks for the clarification. I really have only had a few instances of problems with kids on a Celebrity cruise. And I wouldn't want to ban all kids....just the ones with 'bad' parents that don't take responsibility for them.

I'm really thinking about Crystal, and have started with longer (9/10/11+) cruises...I just can't believe people pull their kids out of school for a vacation. My parents would have NEVER done that.

Hey Dave, I'm a former teacher and you would not believe the vacations these kids take during the school year. My parents would never, ever have pulled us out of school for a trip. To my parents, education was our job, and you have your responsibility to do your best in your job, even if it was elementary school. Now they all say, "what they learn in school is nothing compared to what they learn on a cruise". Now, isn't that a great thing to teach your child? Kids pick up on those comments and whenever you try and teach them something they'll say, "my mom says there's not much to learn in school".

The public schools here and in several states we have lived only teach towards taking the state mandated test. We think there are great teachers all around the country, but the system they work in is absolutely deplorable. We are homeschooling our DD and will travel when the rates are the cheapest.

That's always a challenging story until you look at what's on most of these tests -- the same basic stuff they were trying to get all of us to learn back in the 1950's when I was in grade school. Heavens! And heaven forbid we talk about such relics as the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (required back in "the day" in many states -- it wasn't an "Iowa thing"). Am I dating myself yet? Where do people get the idea that any of this is new?

Homeschooling? Probably a good idea for a host of reasons, and I commend you for it. Standardized tests aren't one of them.
