janets Posted December 31, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2005 Just found out that our Carnival Easter cruise is going to Calica instead of Cozymel and are really upset because we booked this cruise because of itinerary and we love Paradise Beach Heard about an option for all-inclusive day pass to Palladium but can't get any more info on it - how far, transportation? Anyone have any info on good beach in Playa - hate ship excursions
TNtraveler Posted January 26, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2006 Rent a car -- Executive is at the port (email them; Calica isn't listed on its website). We drove south to Puerto Aventuras (great beach and pool at the Omni, dolphin swim in town) and Akumal. Tulum is just a ways farther south. We started the day shopping Playa del Carman, 5 miles north of the port. So, while it's true the port itself is a gravel pit, it turned into our favorite stop. Plenty to do and see. Shadow8 Posted January 27, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2006 We are going to Calica next week and I am hoping to take a cab to Puerto Aventuras to go to the Omni. I have read that we can use the beach resort beach without staying there. Do you have any idea how far the Omni is from the dock and how much a taxi would cost us? L_T Posted January 27, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2006 We loved the Playa del Carmen area and spent some fun time on the beach at Mamitas, at North DdC. Just caught a taxi to 5th Ave in PdC and explored until we found the beach for us. If you really want to go to Paradise Beach - go for it - take the ferry across and spend the day there. slappy1974 Posted January 29, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 29, 2006 I would guess Calica is 5-10 miles from Puerto Aventuras. We tendered to PDC, rented a car (hertz main office is on the highway about a mile from the beach and just south of Constitucion) and drove south to tulum, passing Calica and Puerto Aventuras. Tulum was about 35 miles south of Playa. Parking was $4, trolley to the ruins was $2 (you can also walk), and entrance was about $5. You can hire a guide or walk around yourself and read the descriptions. The ruins are beautiful and perched on a cliff on the beach. Heading back North we stopped in Puerto Aventuras, but only had a few minutes, so we parked on the street and watched the dolphins play. I wanted to spend some time at the Omni, we'll go there next time.

Anyone have any info on good beach in Playa - Try this. It's an ecological theme park/zoo/museum/cave snorkel/dolphin swim/turtle and bird sanctuary, all this with a beach and snorkel trips only a few minutes from the Calica dock: http://www.xel-ha.com/ You may want to book the ship's "Xel-Ha Excursion". It will include admission fee and a continuous shuttle between the park and the dock. Or just catch a taxi.
pch Posted January 29, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 29, 2006 We rented jeeps from executive at the pier. We had them reserved. You must contact them via email from the website. From there we drove to the ruins and toured them (very hot) but a beautiful view. take the tram back to the ruins it will be much quicker and you will feel much fresher than walking. If you get off the boat and drive there you will beat the tour groups at the ruins. we then met up with eddie from edventure tours who joined us and took us to some awesome spots for snorkeling. He provides the equipment for snorkeling. We were with him all day and would have loved more time but had to get car back and back on ship. eddie and bonnies info is posted below as edventure tours.
