andie717 Posted April 29, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2018 Wondering which port would be the best to try to find a snorkel excursion: Amber Cove, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico or Grand Turk? Bonus points for suggesting companies to book with, as well!
coevan Posted April 29, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2018 wow, it's huge Caribbean, of the 4 mentioned St Thomas is probably the best. Grand Turk is all sand unless you take a boat out to the reef. I dove the reef and it's a wall, very nice dive. Puerto Rico does not have much of a reef season and again you would need a boat. We really do not like the DR and Amber Cove, so last trip we stayed aboard and enjoyed the Serenity area.
A&Jfamily Posted April 30, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 30, 2018 St. Thomas - Fury Sailboat and Snorkel with Turtles (Don't count on much fish action tho) Best other snorkeling would be Grand Turk - one that does the wall. This would be your spot for fish and coral. We have only booked last minute with CCL for this and while the snorkeling was great, the trip was not because they crammed way to many people in the area, and had many novice snorkelers who tend to thrash about and have no concept that others are in the water with them. PS - Amber Cove is fine for a port, but no real beach. This place begs to get out of the port and do some kind of adventure on the island.
