newbie280106 Posted January 1, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2006 Hi, I'm sailing with VOS later in January and will hit grand cayman, jamaica and cozumel. We'd like to do a snorkelling activity in one of the stops and was wondering which would be best? Has underwater Cozumel recovered from Wilma? Would GC be better? Also, any suggestions on going with an RCI excursion or a private tour? Thanks for any help.
bruce-r Posted January 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2006 For snorkeling, I'd go with Grand Cayman for at least the next 6-9 months, especially if you plan on snorkeling from shore. You would still see fish while snorkeling in Cozumel, but the shallow near shore snorkel sites haven't recovered yet. Go with a private tour and be sure to see the stingrays. waternsand Posted January 5, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2006 Hands down the best excursion we had on our 7 day cruise w/ HAL was snorkling in Grand Caymen. We booked directly with Buccaneer Snorkeling. They were fantastic. We went to 3 diferent locations. One was Stingray city. Amy
Snorkelcat Posted January 5, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2006 I am hitting those same spots at the end of Jan/early Feb. I am going to go out on a snuba/snorkel excursion in Cozumel. It won't be going to the 'close to shore' reefs that were so damaged. I have done the GC snorkeling and liked it very much. We won't be there but about 6hrs, so I am going to do shore snorkel at Eden Rock. Jamaica(Mo Bay)....I'm open for suggestions...anyone???
bruce-r Posted January 6, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 6, 2006 Jamaica(Mo Bay)....I'm open for suggestions...anyone??? I'm only partly joking, but I would probably stay on the ship. While I haven't actually been there, I've read more than enough negative reports about Jamaica to want to avoid it. If I did leave the ship, this is one of the few places I'd go with the ship's excursion.
