Moets Posted January 2, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2006 Just back from the Infinity (Panama Canal) and had a great time. We consider to make a reservation for Alaska. (end of september 2006). Is it possible to spot the Whales and Orca's or is it to late in season?
constantcruiser Posted January 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2006 We were on the Mercury's last sailing of the season two years ago and saw the most wildlife we've ever seen in Alaska. Lots of whales -- including orcas, which we had never spotted on previous cruises. Our TA, who has been on 50+ Alaskan cruises, tells us she's finds that to be the case every time she sails in September. Of course, the weather was not as warm as it is in July...but still quite pleasant, and only one day of rain. Another advantage of sailing later in the season is the ports are much less crowded than in mid-summer.
gkm Posted January 2, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2006 We sailed over Labor Day week and saw a lot of wildlife, eagles, ocras, humpback, seal, sea lions, and in Denali, bear, caribou and wolf. You can see some of them on my webshots under my signature. The leaves were changing and the tundra in Denali was breathtaking! Garry
wvufan Posted January 3, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2006 We went to Alaska on a 12 nighter last September 15th, and it was super. We took the Captain Larry whale watching excursion in Juneau, and saw many tons of humpbacks. Unfortunately, we didn't see orcas, but I think they might best be seen out of Victoria. As it was the last of the season, it was not crowded and all the shops had reduced prices. Have fun OOOEEE:D :D Bob and Phyl
