I still need to figure out which is best. Shore excursion through Celebrity when in Livorno, or try to get to Pisa/Florence on my own? What are you or have you done? I just haven't had the time to research anything. Planning a wedding is much to time consuming!

If you don't have the time to plan, I'd recommend going with a shore excursion...

Florence is quite a distance from Livorno, train schedules can get confusing and there's no guarantee you're going to find your way to and from the stations...

A private driver is a good option, but could be quite costly...An advantage to a private driver is the ability to arrange your own iinerary on your own terms and schedule...

But, the packaged shore excursion is the most dependable in terms of time and logistics...with little pre-planning to do...

When we docked in Livorno last year, there were all sorts of car rentals available on the pier -- two groups of us rented two cars and we drove to Florence with stops at Pisa on the way back to the ship. It worked out great! There is a large parking structure available near the city center in Florence.

In retrospect we should have arranged for the car rental in advance -- still splitting the car between four people in the car came to less than $30/pp which is significantly less than the $75 Celebrity wanted for the bus ride to do "Florence on your own" (and didn't stop in Pisa).

Just make sure that someone in your group can drive a manual transmission. icon_wink.gif

Hi,

We were on Millennium last August on the 13 night Meditteranean. We took all Celebrity Shore Excursions in Italy, we had never been there and personally, I believe it was worth. The excurions were well run and we saw allot. We took the excusion to Florence and then we stopped in Pisa on the way back. A long day and we were tired.

Good luck on the wedding.
