Moby0215 Posted May 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 22, 2018 Hey everybody. I know the Bliss has yet to sail Alaska but for anyone who has cruised on a ship that did Sawyer Glacier, can someone tell me what to expect? Will there be certain better times for viewing etc? Would like to plan dinner reservations but also don’t want to be in dinner during a time of optimal viewing. Thanks! Rare BostonGal35 Posted May 22, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2018 the best time is the afternoon because when the sun hits it, it calves more. we saw it in the morning so it wasnt too active. the glaciers are all impressive as is, but the calving is so cool to see adn hear (even tho it is sad as it signifies the glacier dying/retreating). We are scheduled to depart Juneau at 1:30 PM and then it says cruise Sawyer Glacier until we arrive in Skagway at 7:00 Am the next morning. Rare BostonGal35 Posted May 22, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 22, 2018 that's a good viewing time. the description is sort of misleading...you dont cruise it for an extended period. they take you to it, you spend maybe an hour there, the ship turns around so all sides get a good view and then you leave. but the ride in and out of the waterway is nice. id say the bulk of viewing will be done by 7pm
