NCL Sun - Question about Cuba Excursion NOT with NCL

Hi,

We’re on the July 2nd sailing on NCL Sun. We booked a private excursion for our day in Cuba. We’re supposed to meet our tour guide at 9:30am, near the Rum Museum. Do you think that realistically we’ll be off the ship in time, if we dock at 8:00am? A bit concerned we may not make it. We also checked the “People to People....” part on the affidavits. Should we have checked something different?

Thanks!

Make sure to read the information put in your state room. You will have to get number to disembark in Cuba. If you are in the first groups you should have no problem. You will be going threw Customes then screening and then you will need to convert your money over to the CUC used on the island. Make sure when you get back on ship that you convert back any unused CUC before 7pm they close down between 7-8pm and will not be open prior to the Sun leaving in the morning. As for your decloration people to people should cover you. If you are not doing anything on shore from NCL you will need to keeps docmentation of your tour. The ship will explain this on the ship several times.

Thanks for the information. We’re looking into exchanging our USD here, so we don’t have to spend time doing it in the port in Cuba.

You won't be able to exchange money outside of Cuba, so definitely try to get off the ship as early as possible. We ended up missing our morning walking tour because we misjudged the amount of time it would take to get through customs and exchange our money. At least it was a free tour anyway, so no big deal. Instead, we took a classic car tour in the morning, and a night life walking tour in the evening. I was advised to check "Support the Cuban People", as we did not book any excursions through NCL.

Thank you! Very valuable information. We checked “people to people”, but we’ll change it to “support the Cuban people”. Hopefully we’ll be in an early group to exit the ship.

Yes, Support of the Cuban people is the one to check. If you can, have them pick you up at the Chopin Statue. It'd right across the street from the cruise terminal & a lot of tour companies pick up there.
