Seaside - does imessage work on ship wifi?

Can anyone confirm for certain if iMessage[1] to other cruise passengers does or does not work on the Seaside wifi without an internet plan?

 

I've heard that on some ships it works, while on others, it does not.

 

 

[1] - On iphones, unless you disable it, text messages to other iphone users are sent using apple's iMessage application. This app uses wifi or cellular data instead of the normal cell SMS service. Ever notice how your text messages to some people are blue and some are green? The blue ones are to other iphone users over iMessage. The green ones are to non iphone users (or iphone users who disable imessage) over normal cell SMS.
