lunagirl Posted July 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2018 We are visiting Costa Maya for the first time in October, and are trying to plan our day. We are docked from 1:00pm to 9:00pm on 10/17/18. Does the algae tend to stop being an issue in the fall? We are traveling with 3 kids (ages 10, 9, and almost 2) and are trying to decide what we should do because if the algae is still bad, I doubt we will plan a beach day at Maya Chan like we originally thought. Any suggestions? Maybe somewhere like Krazy Lobster for dinner?
Rare crewsweeper Posted July 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2018 It's difficult to say. Appears the seaweed/ sea grass is worse than usual this year, in part due to the effluence coming up via the currents from South American rivers. If Maya Chan has issues so wil every beach along the malecon and Almaplena to the south. However, the owners of the beach clubs work together to clean up as much as they can and are looking to the Mexican Government to help provide equipment to make cleanup and disposal easier. If you're planning on heading to Maya Chan, go. As for dinner later, not sure the hours of Krazy Lobster, as many of these clubs close up around 6PM. But Hotel el Caballo Blanco's restaurant would be open as would Fernando's, although Fernando's isn't really child friendly, IMO. If Pizza Papi's is still around, it's open late too. A different take on pizza. I would ask the guys at Maya Chan, assuming anyone is still hungry, where to best go that evening.
