jstroose Posted January 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2006 We are on Nautica 5/5 Athens to Istanbul and have already arranged private guides for Athens, Kusadasi and Istanbul but aren't sure what the best way is to see the other islands. I've been told Dubrovnik is easy on our own. We are not "bus people". Any suggestions for private guides for the various Greek islands or suggested itineraries. If you can i would love an email response: jstrauss@ashleyhomes.com Thanks everyone in advance.
ClaudiaF Posted January 7, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2006 Please tell us which ports you need drivers for in Greece and we can help you. Yes, Dubrovnik is a do it on your own beautiful place! You may though need to jump in a taxi to take you to the main gates of the town depending on where the ship docks- but it is very cheap.

Andee Posted January 8, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2006 We found Corfu, Santorini, Mykonos, and Rhodes easy to do on our own.
JimandStan Posted January 8, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2006 :p We were on the Insignia "Barcelona to Istanbul" last April. We too booked private guides in Kusadasi & Istanbul (we used Levant Solmaz in both places, in fact, and he was a dream!) We also had private guides in all three ports in Italy, so, we originally planned on taking it easy in the Greek Isles. The weather in Greece was so picture-perfect, however, that we decided, at the very last minute, to use the ships tours. We were VERY happily with them (although they did use busses). They were intellegent, sophisticated and informative. The guides were definately "a step above" the normal cruise/tour types. Interestingly, the Oceania tours seemed not to attract the "touristy" types among our fellow passengers. I believe we had twenty on one tour, thirty five on another. We can only hope that you enjoy your trip as much as we did! Cheers!
ClaudiaF Posted January 8, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2006 We will be in Corfu, Olympia, santorini, Delos, Mykonos and Rhodes. You can do Corfu, Santorini and Mykonos and Rhodes ( old town on your own).. if you want to venture out to see the real sights..you will need a taxi or tour especially for Rhodes and Santorini (if you want to see Akritir- which should not be missed)! For Rhodes we like Nick of Rhodes Private tours, his email is: nick-ax@rho.forthnet.gr
sancarlos Posted January 9, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 9, 2006 We will be on the August 21 Oceania cruise from Athens to Istanbul. We have guides in Athens, Istanbul, and Ksadasi. We are looking for private guides for the 8 of us for Rhodes, Delos, Santorine, Katakolan , Corfu. Which of these would we need a tour and guide, which to go on our own?
