Smokey Mountain Tim Posted August 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Do RCI's ships still communicate on VHF frequencies or have they switched to cell phones? Was thinking about bringing a small scanner with me.
Kamloops50 Posted August 16, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Ship to Ship communications is still VHF. On board communications are probably digitized communications to stop people fro listening on operational traffic.

Smokey Mountain Tim Posted August 16, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Onboard stuff is still the 800MHz trunked, IIRC. Can you be more specific? Analog, digital, or encrypted? More specific frequency range for when I would have to do a search. I could imagine searching over the frequency when not being used. I do own a scanner that picks up the 800s. Kamloops50 Posted August 16, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 16, 2018 It;s definately encrypted. The beep at the start on voice is the encoding info for that specific chas\nnel.
