Mullet62 Posted September 7, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2018 We are Steve and Janice Garner. Did Empires of the Mediterranean last March on Viking Star. We loved the trip so much we booked again on Jupiter doing back to back Journey to Antiquities and Iconic Western Mediterranean this time. We may be looking to do a private Rome Tour while everyone is loading and unloading. Any recommendations on a tour company in Civitavecchia? Would like to hear from anyone that has done Viking shore excursions in Monte Carlo, Marseille, Sete' and Barcelona as to suggestions on the best tour to take. Rare Peregrina651 Posted September 7, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2018 For more suggestions for private tour companies and other port oriented information, check out the Ports of Call section of these boards. The audience will be much larger there. Trip Advisor is also a good source of suggestions. Then you can come back here and ask us about any particular tour company. Mullet62 Posted December 11, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted December 11, 2018 No, Still debating....Looked at what there was to do in Civitavecchia. There is an old fort, a no cost museum, couple of churches and several decent restaurants for lunch. Might just hang there. Been to Rome twice and not sure if the 3 hour travel is worth it to see 1 or 2 things we have seen before.

Been to Rome twice and not sure if the 3 hour travel is worth it to see 1 or 2 things we have seen before. Since Rome was the middle of our Viking B2B cruise, we had two full days there--and we did not want to go to Rome. On the first day, while folks were embarking and disembarking, we took the ship's tour to Ostia, which was the seaport of ancient Rome. The next day, we did the ship's tour to Tarquinia to see the Etruscan burial mounds and then had time to wander around the town of Tarquinia where we visited the archeological museum. We enjoyed both tours and would recommend either of them as a pleasant way to spend a half day. Inside archeology museum A view of Ostia
