Cayman Islands, cell phone, calling cards

I read somewhere that you can use your cell phones from the Cayman Islands. Is this true? Can you also use calling cards? Do you need special codes?

I always call my cell phone company before we leave and find out which ports they have coverage in and once in Mexico I do remember they gave me a code to go from a spanish speaking operator to a dial tone in the states...

Call your provider...they may also have a small fee to temporarily make your cell phone a international plan...so you aren't being charged roaming fees to the hilt!!! For the month of your travels...Good luck!

last summer i used my cell phone because I saw cingular signs in town. I didn't have a roming thing and my parents didn't kill me when they got the bill so I plan on making calls again this summer.

Last year, we used our AT&T (now Cingular) phones from Grand Cayman. The phones did not show roam, but said "AT&T Wireless" so I thought we were in a home area. Foolish me, we paid about $1.30 a minute. Best to check with your company.

We have Sprint, and our cell phones worked while we were in Grand Cayman. You have to call Sprint first, and they set you up for "international" calling. We then had to call a number (#2 I think), and download somthing. But it worked.

We didn't have to dial anything other than 1 + the area code and number. At first, I was trying to dial the country code, and then the number, but it didn't work. I think we paid $1.60 a minute, but it easier than renting a phone since we were there for the week.
