Questions about hotel, transfers in Costa Rica

We just decided to take the March 4 Windstar cruise in Costa Rica, so I'm in furious planning mode and would appreciate any help.

 

My main concern right now is getting to the ship, which departs from Puerto Caldera. My questions are:

 

1. Any suggestions on the best place to find the cheapest airfare to San Jose?

 

2. Any hotel recommendations? We're undecided whether we're going to spend the night in San Jose, or in Puerto Caldera. Any opinions?

 

3. How do we get from the airport to Puerto Caldera?

For air fares check with continental. Some of their fares were not too bad a few days out. There isn't much around the port but one resort. Go to trip advisor and that may help you with some information. We stayed overnight at the Intercontinental San Jose. very nice hotel. The business desk at any of the hotels can help with arrangements to the port. Also many people use Charlie Soto for travel to the port.

 

Also Shorex.net provides tours and services to the port.

Thanks for your help! As it turns out, we don't have to worry -- we have friends who relocated to Costa Rica after retirement, and they've offered to pick us up at the airport, put us up for the night and deliver us to our ship the next day. What a relief!
