beloum Posted January 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2006 I am hoping someone can help me with this issue. I have a cruise booked in April out of Miami. Due to FF mile flight availability, I was only able to get a flight from Richmond to Ft. Lauderdale. Plus, I had to fly in a day early. What would be the easiest and least expensive way to get from a Ft. Lauderdale hotel (or would it be better to stay in Miami the night before) to the Miami pier (and of course back to Ft. Lauderdale after the cruise. Thanks.
jakieemma Posted January 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2006 My opinion is that you should rent a car at Ft. Lauderdale airport and drop off at Miami airport with a free shuttle to the pier. On the return I would buy a Carnival voucher for a bus ride to FLL. We are a family of 6 with a pre stay in FLL,cruising out of Miami. It cost me 56. for a mini van for 24 hours as opposed to paying for a cab or limo. It also gives you the freedom to explore, find a nice restaurant, or go shopping. You also have the ability to choose to stay in either Miami or Ft. Lauderdale, which ever is the cheapest (FLL I believe).

beloum Posted January 11, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted January 11, 2006 Thanks Bonnie. Sounds like a good Idea. Does the car rental provide a free shuttle from the MIA airport, (and if so, which one), or do I get a shuttle from somewhere else?

pickpart2 Posted January 12, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 12, 2006 Cost would depend on the size of your group. Flight times may also be an issue. With a group of 5 Carnival charges 20.00 pp one way = 100.00 Limo cost 120.00 one way Shuttle van 12.00 pp one way Dollar rent a mini van YOUR RATE IS: 1 Weekend day at $38.93 per day. Unlimited mileage. Base Rate: $38.93 Renting the van in MIA (free shuttle every 15 min.) returning to FLL We have time to kill since our flight is not until 2:00 so we will go for a nice ride to lax along the ocean. moonvine Posted January 13, 2006 #11 Share Posted January 13, 2006 What company..gimme the dates...we will get this solved !!!!! National....I love National..they are so cheap...and I am Emerald Club so I don't have to wait in line:D :D :D Lets see. I am flying in to FLL 2/3/06. Flight arrives around 1 I think. Got a room at the Fairfield Inn Airport West/Doral Area on Priceline for $60 (my understanding this is in the MIA airport area). So I will have the afternoon and evening to hang out in Miami. I hope to have enough time to hit the zoo. Then return the car to the airport around 9 am 2/4/06. I would like to be at the port no later than 10:30 - is this reasonable to get from the airport to the port in 1.5 hours? I've never been to Miami. Then of course I have to get from the port back to FLL on 2/11/06, but I will worry about that once I get this solved:)
TrentS Posted January 13, 2006 #12 Share Posted January 13, 2006 Doral is 15 minutes or so west of the MIA airport terminals. It's only 20 minutes from the MIA airport to the Port of Miami.

So what is the best/cheapest way for a single person with normal amounts of luggage to get from MIA to the Port of Miami?:)
TrentS Posted January 13, 2006 #14 Share Posted January 13, 2006 Taxis from MIA to the Port of Miami are a flat, fixed rate of $24. For a single though SuperShuttle should be a cheaper option... http://www.supershuttle.com/htm/cities/mia.htm
hitman00 Posted January 14, 2006 #15 Share Posted January 14, 2006 I don't how many of you are going, but our party of four is in the same boat (pardon the pun!). We are flying into Ft Lauderdale 1/20, spending the night in Pembroke Pines. We got a limo to pick us up at the airport, take us to the hotel, take us from the hotel to the Miami Pier 1/21, and transport us from the Miami Pier to Ft Lauderdale airport 1/26 all for $210 including tax, tip, everything. They were awesome to work with and were very helpful in figuring out what hotel would be most cost effective, while being in a good neighborhood. Plus, we won't have to worry about driving in a new city or dealing with parking.
TrentS Posted January 14, 2006 #16 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Pembroke Pines??? Yeah, probably the most cost effective FOR THEM. There are MANY safe areas and hotels that aren't so out of the way. Driving in South Florida is very easy. Everything is laid out in a grid and signage is good. It's one of the easier places to get around in if you have a car. hitman00 Posted January 16, 2006 #17 Share Posted January 16, 2006 We traded in hotel points for a free night, so we just had a handful of places to choose from. We get in fairly late, so wanted someplace closeby where we could wind down and grab a bite to eat. We'll be right next to Craker Barrell! YUM! Also, I'm a mother of 3 boys and babysit a little girl. I'm going on a cruise and I want to be pampered from start to finish!

It's very easy, really... I would stay in downtown Miami, that's where the Port of Miami is and the hotels there are a very short, inexpensive cab ride to the port in the morning. From FLL you can either rent a car to get to Miami, or if you don't want to mess with that, take Tri-County/Airport Express' van service to a downtown Miami hotel ($18 per person)... http://www.floridalimo.com/ Downtown Miami hotels, closest to the Port of Miami and Bayside Marketplace... http://www.baysidemarketplace.com/ JW Marriott... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/miajw Hyatt Regency... http://miamiregency.hyatt.com/property/index.jhtml Intercontinental... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ic/1/en/hd/miaha?irs=null Biscayne Bay Marriott... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/miabb Conrad International... http://conradhotels.hilton.com/en/ch/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=MIACICI Four Seasons... http://www.fourseasons.com/miami/index.html Mandarin Oriental... http://www.mandarinoriental.com/hotel/526000001.asp Marriott Courtyard (budget priced)... http://www.miamicourtyard.com/ Holiday Inn Bayside/Port of Miami (for the budget minded)... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hd/miabb
