LobsterStalker Posted October 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2018 Hi all, I've been on 7 cruises now, all with Royal Caribbean, and heading for our 8th on Norwegian Breakaway in a couple weeks. We generally don't do a lot of excursions , maybe 1,possibly 2 per trip. Most stops we usually like to find a nearby beach and relax. On previous cruises I have booked excursions both from the ship, as well as on the dock with the local providers. I am wondering if anyone has booked IN ADVANCE with any private companies for any Caribbean ports, and if so how the experience was for you ? Also , 3 ports we are heading to next month will be new to us. Anyone with any tips for me on beaches or Can't miss adventures in St. Thomas, Basseterre or Tortola would be appreciated. Thx in advance Colin
blue_water Posted October 3, 2018 #2 Share Posted October 3, 2018 All three are good beach ports. A few Questions to understand what you enjoy - You will be on the Bliss in 2 weeks, and a second cruise next month? Or is this the same cruise? What are your weekdays and times in each port? Do you want to snorkel at all? If so do you have your own gear? For relaxing at the beach do you like popular beaches with all the amenities where many of your fellow cruisemates will be, a secluded beach with no amenities (and no fellow cruisers), or a few amenities but less crowds? Do you enjoy catamaran sails even if you don’t care to snorkel? Thanks!

blue_water Posted October 4, 2018 #4 Share Posted October 4, 2018 I posted St Thomas ideas on that forum. For Tortola on a very short stop we would just hop a safari taxi to Brewers Bay, gorgeous beach with one beach bar, snorkeling but not sure about gear rentals. For a busier vibe with several bars go to Cane Garden Bay (no snorkeling). Taxi fare is $8pp each way to both beaches and taxis return to get you. Also read other threads here if you might be interested in a tour or shopping near the port. Do try to get away from the port area to enjoy the beauty of Tortola! :)
blue_water Posted October 4, 2018 #5 Share Posted October 4, 2018 For St Kitt's Frigate Bay beach and beach bars like Mr X Shiggidy's would be fun. The cat sail to Nevis sounds great but it's through the ship unless you can find an independent operator
