apietros Posted November 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2018 Seas look rough. How are they? Are you on time to get back to NY tomorrow?
stevenq99 Posted November 11, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2018 my best guess is the Escape is the blus ship off the cost just going into New jersey. They should have no problem getting back on time.
Rare mking8288 Posted November 11, 2018 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2018 I concur with above guestimate, AIS data suggesting that the Escape should be within radar range in the next 3 to 4 hours, typically once it's northeast off the coast of Atlantic City, NJ - less than 100 nm from NYC. As for seas looking rough on ship's live webcam earlier, it didn't look that bad to me as we're just off her coming back from Bermuda ... my best guess, large waves of 12' to 15' with swell, nothing a mega+ sized ship like she cannot easily handle & navigate, just a little bit of chops, rocking & rolling - mostly felt if you are on the higher decks, Fwd & Aft (mid-ship will still feel some motion, but not as badly.) Looked at Oceanweather charts (static) and Windy App's dynamic data, pretty much confirm seas being 10' to 15' for the area being transited; but with a bit of strong head wind, angled slightly toward the bow ... 25 to 30 knots, below gale force wind. Probably will be a little slower vs. on a good tail wind, depending on her cruise speed on the final leg. Not going to sail under the VZ Bridge at 3 or 4 am, trimmed to probably come into the NY harbor around 5 to 6 am, docking at 7 ... should not be a problem, unless there's strong river current & tide and they need tug boat(s) & pilot to help.
