It really depends on your kid. Our son loved it for all his cruises, but it was kind of his first time getting to be on his own. Just due to personal situations with our family, he was pretty busy and didn't really get to "be on his own." But we also set rules before we went. The first time we did go, we went with another family, who had a son that had cruised many times. They hung out to begin with, but also met other people and  would hang out with their own friends then.

I would definitely recommend, as you read on the other thread Faelia, go on the first night to the meet & greet. That's kind of when they all get the idea of what other kids are there and who they might want to hang with. Things seem to develop quickly as it's only 7 days together, really 6 when you get down to it.

Make sure you kid knows what you expect from them - i.e. stay in public places, no going into other's rooms, nobody coming into your room, expected behavior, etc... We never "required" him to check in with us but we'd always run into him at least twice/day. We tended to find a spot on the ship that we'd spend our days relaxing at for sea days. He would have to be back for dinner, so like 5. And they close the club from like 5-8/9 so families can do dinner. Curfew would depend on what we were doing the next day. For a Caribbean cruise, it was usually hanging at a beach, so he could stay as late as the activities were going. But on our Alaska & European ones, we would be having very busy/early port days, so sometimes we'd have him come back at like 10-11.

Oh, but if you do want your kid to check in with you, you can always use the Hub app for on-board texting. Or some people use post it notes on the mirror in the room, or just a notepad. We just never needed to do that. And as far as the activities listed on the calendar, don't think it will always be what's listed. Sometimes, the kids in the club just don't want to do that activity, so they do something else. And a lot of times, our son would just hang with a group of friends he made playing video games, swimming, eating, etc... Just that the schedule isn't set in stone.

Hope that all helps!
