springfire Posted January 15, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2006 On these cave tubing trips, what is the appropriate tip amount if I take my family of 5?
Linda8818 Posted January 18, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2006 I have never taken a ship excursion, and I only tip when I feel the employees have gone beyond what is expected. On a recent cruise, I did not notice anyone else giving 'extra', just a lot of 'thank you very muches'. If you'd like to tip, there is no set amount; it's purely your preference. I am sure anything is appreciated.

michigansal Posted January 19, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 19, 2006 Though I haven't gone on the cave-tubing excursion yet (scheduled for February), I can comment on tipping for tours. My family has been fortunate to be able to participate over the years in many day tours like this. After the vacation is over and the luggage packed away, these tours are many times the highlights of our trip. The guides are usually very attentive, informative, funny and want you to have a great time. Most times they will 'bend over backward' to keep you happy. Depending on the length of excursion, and enthusiasm of the guide, we typically give $25-$30 for a family of 4. We've seen other families give comparable amounts. Hopefully this is appropriate. Occasionally you'll see some people give just a handful of change, a dollar, or worse yet, a "thanks" and I always feel bad for the employees when this happens. It more or less tells the guide, "you didn't do a good job" or "we are cheapskates". After all when you've just spent $4000 on a cruise what's another $25 for a great day?
