VERY LONG Review: Infinity 08 Jan 06 Eastern Caribbean LONG

We had the stateroom just below Flagger, and I am in general agreement with most of his comments.

What is most dissappointing is that the stateroom attendant on our deck may have been even worse than Chuck's. Besides outright poor service, she never even bothered to introduce her assistant. A couple of our friends down the corridor forsook charging their tips so that they could give her less than the "recommended" amount. We all made up for that by the extra tips we gave Andrejka, our sommelier. BTW, Andrejka may replace Danuta in our hearts as an all time favorite.

Sort or ironic, but we could not keep our verandah door closed unless we used the mechanically latch. The handle that trapped Laura was totally useless in our room.

Since we knew Niina, the hotel manager, from a previous cruise it was good to hear that she was only on board 4 days. I would hate to think she was the one responsible for the current state of the hotel staff.

Chuck did make a good decision to not get off in San Juan. For whatever reason, perhaps a premature announcement, only one seapass line was open for the first 30-40 minutes after we docked. It was only when we got to the exit after a 30 minute wait in line that they finally opened a second exit.

Without consultation with Chuck, but in full agreement with the other two couples we were traveling with, the conclusion is that it was a good cruise, but did not meet, let alone, exceed expectations. We also agreed with his conclusion that the attention to detail was lacking and that things just weren't in sync.

Remember, I am a known Celebrity enthusiast, and this was our 4th cruise on the Infinity is the past 3 years, so it is really painful to sound unhappy.

Flagger:

The 5 of us were on the same ship/same time and we had a greaaat time! We normally switch between RC and Celebrity to suit our type of ship and/or cruise date.

Even though the weather was NOT the greatest!! the sun still managed to come out during port days and on one of the 2 days on our way back to Fll.

What I will say is that the food and the level of service was top notch and we really had few complaints. Our teenaged kids were 3 of the 11 on board and sometimes they showed up at the teen clubs by themselves, but they managed to make a few friends along the way.

Staff was courteous and always spoke with us in the hallways or at dinner. The capatain was probably the most approachable man in his position that I have ever encountered. He was at the captains club meet & greets and the cocktail parties, the opening of the shows in the theatre, the Gym etc. I was impressed (also spoke realitively good english!)

It was probably the bumpiest ride on a cruise ship we ever had and those people who get seasick had a rough time of it. I alsmost rolled out of bed one night and could'nt stop laughing! I though everybody on board did pretty well with the waves and seemed to be enjoying themselves.

The best part was the last night when we finally got most of our $$ back from the craps tables. (those big waves kept the 7's to a minimum!)

Hi Art !

Would you happen to know if this Nina, is the same Nina, who was previously an assistant Hotel Manager on Summit ? We had the pleasure of sailing with her last year, and she was outstanding. I was curious if this is the same Nina that we know.

After reading so many comments about every topic imaginable on Cruise Critics it was great to have such a readable review of the cruise you went on ( this is the ship we are going on in May) it put everything in a very laid back manner without the harsh criticism that often appears over small trifles thanks ann:)

Normally I do not respond to these types of issues in public. But I want to assure our long time members that we are doing everything in our power to catch the person responsible for these vile postings. Specifics regarding "how" we do it shall remain undisclosed, but I will share that we have brought in various legal and police authorities, who assure me it is just a matter of time. The longer the amount of time this person devotes to this the easier, I'm told, it will be to catch him.

I know they had a bio of her in one of the newspapers on board. I think it is the same person. I know she told us at the CC gathering that Voyager was responsible for her coming to work for the company. She had been a higher up at a hotel in Finland. Her home is in Turku. She was very friendly.

I also want to just say that even though I posted my views on my cruise, I am not turned off on Celebrity. We are considering a short four day on Century in the fall if we get our ducks in a row. For now our only for sure booked cruise is FOS next January and we are planning on Disney's Magic on December 07 when the dates are released.

Probably, Andy

Our previous contact was with her on the Summit, but I didn't know her title at the time. It seems likely since I always assumed that she was the link via which Seth, our son, managed to get us up-graded to a veranda.

The tiebreaker is the 2 i's in her name, Niina.

For the responders that had a great time, I'm pleased because we did, too. It is more of a matter that when the Infinity is on her game, it is a phenomenal, rather than a very good cruise.

Left out one of the phenomenal things. There is now an invitation only (from your sommelier) wine tasting and food pairing held in the SS United States. If you really enjoy wine, if is a great event and only $10. Sort of related, you can also do the martini sampler any night at the martini bar.

Flagger..thks for the review.... We've been on the Infinity three times and each time there are "Those little things" that niggle at you below expectations. But they have never stopped us from enjoying ourselves nor planning a return.

Thanks for the insightful review. We are going on this cruise in two weeks. Hubby wanted to know which night was a good night to go to the gourmet rest. I know on RCI we always went on carribean night. Thanks for the info.

We went to the SS United States on the last formal night. It was fantastic.

The CC party was at 7:45 PM and lasts until 8:30 PM. So we made reservations for 8:30 PM. The duck was the best we have ever had.

Flagger:

Great review of our cruise, wow I think you caught every little detail! It was nice to meet you, your wife and adorable daughter. We had a marvelous time on the cruise, despite some pretty rough seas. This was our first cruise on Celebrity and I would say its definitely a "step above" all of the cruises we have been on with RCCL. The only thing I would add is that they need to put more $5 blackjack tables in the casino and move them a little further apart, the chairs were way too big for the small blackjack table. We loved everything else on the cruise and met some wonderful people! Take care, best of luck on your upcoming move and hopefully we'll see you on another Celebrity cruise in the future.

Well, Flagger, I just got off the DIS and couldn't help but laugh at your responses to the anti-casino crowd. Looks like you enjoy stirring the pot here as well!:D

I truly enjoyed reading your review. We're hoping to try X soon (depends on what the Magic's itinerary is for the Med in 2007 -- I think it will be tough to beat out X's Barcelona to Venice route). Your fair and balanced review makes me want to break away from DCL and give X a try --THANKS!

We were on Infinity the week after Flagger (Jan. 15-22) and had a wonderful cruise. Just a few tidbits to add:

Concerning the new menus - if you look at the "Wednesday" one Flagger posted, our table tried both the "Straw and Hay" (scallops and pasta) and was happy with it; and the "fillet of King Clip" was lovely! Nice fish and delicate interesting sauce. Also - the menus are quite elegant and presented in large leathery folders now, instead of the little printed paper ones of old.

Dining room waiter, Klime, from Macedonia, was perhaps the best waiter we have had on any of many cruises. Absolutely knowledgable about the food prep and pointed us in the right direction all the time. Efficient, professional, terrific. Picked up the slack even from our somewhat clueless sommelier.

Can't comment on the other 2 menus Flagger posted, as we were in the SS United States those nites. (Our clever martini bartender, Eli, calls it the "S.S. U.S." and then adds that he eats at the "S.S. Crew Mess" ;))

Two days into our cruise, large layout plans of the whole Deck 10 buffet area arrived from Miami and are now displayed on easels at entrances. This surely helps with people's ability to find the kind of lunch food (pasta, sandwiches, salads, custom pizza, etc.) they want, without having to walk all around looking for it. An improvement.

We, too, were on Deck 8, cabin on the stern, and thought Conrad was terrific. Flagger, I also noticed the bathmat on the wrong side with the logo facing down and thought the same thing!

There was a very large group on board that was, unfortunately, quite prominent. Just one example - I did not appreciate that the Deck 11 bow lounge was off limits to the rest of us for several hours one morning, which included sailing into a port.

We observed that the demographics of the entire ship seemed older and more infirm than on other cruises. We chatted with many very nice people, but there was also more than enough of the oft-described-on-these-boards rudeness and discourtesy from people who don't think of anyone but themselves. Thank goodness for our own verandah...

Upon completion of the cruise, we became "Elite" Capt. Club members; we are booked for future cruises and we shall see how the perks are! :)
