Which ship do people like better?

Out of the Pacific Sun and Pacific Star what are everyone's opinions on these? Is Pacific Star or Pacific Sun better? I'm sure they are both good though! Would like to do another cruise in 2007 or 2008. Don't know what ship!!

I loved PAcific Sky. It sounds like a lot of people did. Will be greatly missed! :)

Hi Strawberry,

I too loved the Sky. I was just disappointed when our Easter cruise was cancelled due to the gearbox failure. But, it does sound like most of her problems have been sorted out. BTW we were told by a member of the cruise staff who was onboard when she was grounded at Isle of Pines that it was caused by a computer malfunction and not by any individual. Apparently the computers just turned on with no-one there and decided it was time to go!!

Firstly I have just returned from the Star and was on the Sun in September. I have to admit I like both ships for different reasons. I will post a review at some stage with more details on the Star but a few places she differs from the Sun are as follows:

  • The Star is a narrower ship. This means you feel the movement of the ship more. I didn't have a problem with this it was just noticable and for anyone who suffers from motion sickness may be of interest.
  • There was no separate kids dinner on the Star. We were informed by one of the Head Waiters that the Maitre 'D was never told he needed to schedule a separate kids dinner. There is one restaurant on the Star and it is very large. I firmly believe this will change and it won't be too long til they are back offering a kids dinner again!! We had over 300 kids onboard and most of them were at the early dinner sitting with us!!!!
  • There is no self service laundry on board the Star which includes ironing facilities.
  • I believe the Star cabins are slightly smaller than the Sun. BUT the beds were definately more comfortable on the Star than they were on the Sun (probably because they are new!!). It was also easier to get up on the top bunk with a wider ladder that hooked in on the Star.
  • The show lounge is much bigger on the Sun. There was only a few times when I noticed there was not enough room in the Star lounge but it would definately have been easier on the Sun.
  • There is a teen centre on board the Star (just remembered I never went there to check it out!!). If I remember correctly there is an arcade on the Sun which alot of the teens used but it was directly beside the casino and filled with smoke. On the Star they are on a different deck.
  • While I am on the subject of the smoke filled casino on the Sun it was much better on the Star. In fact they even had a few no smoking nights during the cruise. It must have a better exhaust system than the Sun because the smoke wasn't as bad on the Star. However the Star casino was always quite hot.

Oh well that will do for a start. I think the main selling point for us will be the fare and the fact that the Star is based in Brisbane which makes it much easier for us.

Cheers,

Chaz:)
